My dock no longer keeps my stuff that I save to it and the order I keep things on the dock. This started after I removed Norton from my iMac.

Can anyone please help me fix this issue please.

How do I find that file ?

It's ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist

You can run a Terminal command to get rid of it, if you want:

rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist; killall Dock

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist was not there instead there was a file called ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dockfixup.plist I removed this file then tried adding icons to the dock but has not worked.

Weirdly I couldn't find the dock.plist file at first either, but I looked again and it was there.

I did a search for the file name and yep found it as well so I deleted it but again has not fixed the issue ?

Trying to use the terminal window but it comes up with the following :-

override rw------- root/staff for /Users/aussieholden/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist?

Well, there's your problem. For some reason the file has incorrect permissions, you'll have to do prepend "sudo" to the above command and put in your password when prompted.

I.e.

sudo rm ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist; killall Dock

Thanks that did the trick all back again ;-)
