Hi,
I'm just curious (and sussing out possibilities).. I've got a 15" mid-2011 Macbook Pro, that I use a 27" display via the mini display port, I'm considering getting a second 27" display, however I'm not sure of the logistics of it..

I've seen external thunderbolt graphics cards, as well as thunderbolt to HDMI adapters.. I'm guessing if I wanted to run another display (instead of the laptops internal screen) that I'd have to go for the external graphics card instead of just an adapter? or can you just use it with an adapter like the mini display port? (and still have the display port active)

Nope, you need another graphics card/way out of outputting video. There are USB solutions, not sure if people make a Thunderbolt version.

There was a thread on this recently, guy had a MacBook Air and wanted to run two external displays: http://www.mactalk.com.au/14/116721-using-two-lg-monitors-macbook-air-possible.html
