I'm thinking of a 13" Macbook Air and using with monitors at home. My question is: how much monitor can they handle? Can they handle two screens, and what would be the largest screen or combination of screens?

Out of the box? Two displays: the internal display, and one external at up to 2560x1600.

How many displays do you need?

If it was me, I'd team a MacBook Air with a 27-inch Thunderbolt display and plug all the peripherals into the display to make it easy to grab-n-go with the MBA.

I had just that setup, 13" MBA + 27" thunderbolt display. It worked beautifully (and I love the 13" MBA has a higher res than the 13" MBP).

I wouldn't buy a TB display until they release the thinned down version and put in USB 3.

I have a 13" MBA i7 500Gb and a 27" Thunderbolt and I would not change it for anything.. If you are waiting for the Thunderbolt upgrade, keep waiting.... I don't think it will happen soon :)

the general consensus is that'll it'll be coming with the new mac pro.
which is meant to be coming quite soon too (november perhaps).
