I have a new Powerbook that locks up once or twice a day for no apparent reason. It is never at the same time or performing the same work.
My optical mouse dies (which is run through a seperate keyboard) and i can only move the arrow on the touch pad but it doesn't allow me to click on anything or close anything.
I am using an Apple Cinema display as well rather than the powerbook screen
Has this happened to anyone else? is there a solution?

So are you spanning or just using the cinema with the powerbook lid down.

If you are using the computer with the lid down for extended periods, i would say that it is heat and try it for a few days with spanning - its cool

Are you using it in clamshell mode with the external? or screen spanning?

I wonder if the young girl might be overheating.

"locks up" is that the beachball of eternal suffering, or just plain frozen- no response, nothing happening...

(edit) Just got to talk over me don't you Architect.

how embarrasing...

I'm assuming that a Lock up is a Kernel Panic? or is it just finder freezing and the spinning ball happening?

Open up /Applications/Utilities/Console.app and check out /Library/Logs/Crashreporter for panic.log and see what it says in there...

lid is not down and it is not the pizza wheel of death just frozen
