View Full Version : Firefox - very slow

I've got a 2011 27" Mac running Snow Leopard and Firefox runs diabolically slow (at times). Going to activity monitor, the % usage can be upwards of 80%+, sometimes 100% and then it obviously hangs. Also memory usage is often high. I've reimaged it and downloaded the latest version of Firefox, but still the problem persists. Any ideas??

Try clearing out the History/Cache/Everything and see if that improves the speed.

Is it choking on any particular web page? Do you have a lot of tabs open (does cutting down on the number of tabs/windows help)?

I do usually have quite a few tabs open, but then I do on my windows 7 pc at work which is lower spec.

Is this a recent thing or something that you've always noticed with Firefox? If it's a recent thing, could have something to do with your Firefox user profile becoming bogged down with stuff. I've seen similar things happen with Chrome.

Back it up, remove it, and see if Firefox is still slow.

Well I've had it on off for 2 years and attributed it going to torrent sites which would result in porn pop ups etc I guess it was installing something or doing something to the firefox browser resulting in the high cpu/memory usage. But after reimaging it with the OEM disk after 2 weeks, the same issue.

Might just be Firefox.

Firefox really sucks on the mac these days. Porn pop ups and torrent sites don't help. :)

I don't even have Firefox on my Mac anymore, and Chrome is starting to make me crazy in the same way Firefox did. I've gone back to using safari everywhere.
