I already have an Apple ID but am changing ISP so need to change my Apple ID username as it is based on my email from my ex-ISP.
Can I update my ID by changing to Apple's iCloud without losing my purchases etc?

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but no, you can't, because your iCloud account is already an Apple ID.

You can change your primary email address, though: Apple ID: Changing the email address you use for your Apple ID (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5621)

That's exactly what I did. Then, if you also register for iCloud with that Apple ID, you will get an "alternate Apple ID" (i.e. accountname@me.com) which I think should work everywhere you need to enter your apple ID. Although, pick your Apple ID carefully, cause I don't think you can change it after the fact.

How did you 'connect' your new iCloud ID to your old account?
