View Full Version : Advice on clean install

Hi guys, just after some opinions on how to restore software after a clean install.

I have a (early) 2009 Macbook Pro and am finally upgrading the HDD to an SDD. Currently running 10.7, so figured I would upgrade to 10.8 at the same time. So will install 10.8 on the SDD once I've put it in. After opinion on the best way to restore my software after installation. One option is to use migration assistant from a backup, the other is to install things from scratch. From what I've read, opinion is divided. Some say the migration assistant route is ok, others claim it's not a true clean install and you could import problems into the new drive.

What do MacTalkers think?

Clean install. Start fresh.

i think a clean install is just that...no restoring from backups and such. i have been into Apple only last few months however i have been a long time Windows and some retro OS's (Amiga\Atari) and have always performed clean installations...from OS through to settings and programs.
takes longer but feels more "cleaner".
