I had a macbook sitting around for a while and recently just turned it on and i now want to upgrade the os it's currently running leopard. I saw that mountain lion is out and apple are selling a upgrade for $21 which I don't think I can use. Can I buy a full version of Mac OSX Mountain Lion anywhere ?

Which model MacBook are you referring to specifically?

From what I can tell, Mountain Lion requires at least Mac OSX 10.6 (Snow Leopard) to install, since it is only available via the Mac App Store.

More info is available here: Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion. (http://www.apple.com/osx/how-to-upgrade/)

It's one of the last white macbooks 2008 i think, looks like i need to buy the snow leopard upgrade then purchase mountain lion.

You'll either need Snow Leopard or someone who has Mountain Lion already and can make you a bootable USB key to install it I believe.

If the MacBook is a late 2008, 4,1 model it will only run 10.7 Lion, not 10.8 Mountain Lion.
