Does anyone know any good FREE Disk Defrag app for Mac OS X? Unless it is inbuilt into OS X, but I can't find it!

OS X defrags the HD automatically in the background iirc.

Besides, modern HD's are much quicker than their ancestors were - any performance increase from a defrag would be minimal.

Cool, that's what I had heard, it's good that it was confirmed, thanks Disko.!

The closest thing to defrag that is necessary on an Apple is repairing permissions. There is the apple program for this in Applications/Utilies/Disk Utility, and you can also download System Optimizer off versiontracker. http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/13321

Disk defragmentation is actually detrimental under OSX, as it stores frequently accessed files (hotfiles) at the front of the disk for optimal performance. De-fragmentation would actually wreck this system.

What I recommend, if anything, is storing very large files on a seperate partition/hd as they tend to get fragmented the most.
