Sunbury? Gladstone Park? Melbourne Airport?

Surely in the newly built section of Highpoint?

100% this is going at Highpoint.. have an insider who works for their centre management... Oh hold on did he let the cat out of the bag?

As soon as Borders closed I thought that would be an ideal spot for an Apple Store, then Rebel moved in. So where is there space? New area near the new David Jones? I would have thought the other end was a better location.

Well.. the new store would be at least 3-4 months away.... from what i hear... some one is vacating the space :)

If Highpoint is getting redeveloped and it's the major centre in the area, I'd suspect it'd be likely.

That said, I'm still surprised as to the lack of one in the CBD itself.

No need to vacate space - I imagine it's going in the new section with the David Jones, as had been anticipated since they began the redevelopment a few years ago.

This is definitely a step in the right direction, but there's still a massive hole in the middle of the city with no Apple Store.

[..]but there's still a massive hole in the middle of the city with no Apple Store.
Massive embarrassment for Apple I'd say. Eight stores in NSW and just 3 in VIC/Melb with not one having a street-facing frontage - how does Apple argue they have a retail 'plan' with that unbalanced level of market coverage? In the CBD we wander despondently between the jangle of pimply-faced JB HiFi and the dusty shelves in DJ's and - oh hell - Myer. We need a friggin 10 storey glass wall, and soon, just to make up for the shame!

It's past time that there was an Apple store at Highpoint, it's as large and as busy a centre as Doncaster and demographically a better match for Apple sales and with the extensions to Highpoint it will be larger and busier than Doncaster.

FWIW I agree they need a city store but at least there's a store that's not in the south to east quarter of the city now!

Finally, an Apple store that isn't a 45 minute drive cross town for! Highpoint is huge, drawing in everyone who doesn't live in the north/east part of Melbourne. I doubt Apple will go further out than Highpoint any time soon though.

Highpoint also has a tram going to it, so it's at least closer to the CBD (train to Footscray station, then the 82 tram) than Chaddy or Doncaster, and wayyy closer than Southland.

Groan - not Knifepoint...

I can live in hope that Highpoint is west, not northwest of the city, and there might be another venue in mind. Maybe near the DFO at Essendon. Or not. ;-)

The only other shopping centre of similar size to Doncaster and Highpoint that doesn't already have an Apple store is Watergardens but I think CBD will happen next.

What the hell is their aversion to building a CBD store?

The Emporium development is on track for Nov 2013 - hopefully there'll be a CBD store there.

45 mins, you have it lucky, we folk stuck here in Adelaide still have a 10 hour drive to our closest Apple store. :p

The ironic part being with all the universities here switching to macs for a lot of subjects and still no bricks and mortar stores, just resellers. All because they cant find a shopfront wide enough (or some other excuse ....we have heard them all).

I will take Highpoint. Five minutes away from where I am in Ascot Vale. Saves the trip to Doncaster or Chadstone.

I was wondering when this store would open, was hoping for this year but everything points to about late Q1, 2013. Good timing for me to finally buy an iPad.
