View Full Version : Siri and external background noise

Say hypothetically I use Siri in an iPhone 4s. Fine it works. But Forstall's demo of it was in a room with no real noise apart from him. But in the real world it is near impossible to get a perfectly quiet place to talk to the phone. A lot of the places you want to use it will be pretty crowded and noisy.

My question is how good is Siri with excluding all the (sometimes very loud) background noise and focusing in your voice. To answer your questions?

Very very good.

Siri's input filter software runs in one of the PowerVR GPU cores and uses narrow multiple bandpassing to home in on vocal structures.

Thanks for the reply.

I would assume it'd have to learn your voice first though. So it knows to look for your voice patterns and disregard the others in the crowd.

If you're curious, try out Dragon Dictate for the Mac. Nuance is supposedly powering the speech-to-text so it should work the same. I don't think, however, you're going to need to go through the initial setup with your voice to make it work.
