GPS Access

I have decided (almost) to purchase an I Pad WiFi only version along with a Telstra Elite hot spot device.
I have read a number of posts relating to this subject and clearly it's a 'horses for courses' decision.
One thing that is not clear to me is GPS access. Is it correct that only the 3G version of the Ipad makes GPS access possible?

If you check Apple - iPad - View the technical specifications for iPad. (http://www.apple.com/au/ipad/specs/) you will see that only the iPad 2 with 3G has GPS
