Default Green Day frontman attacks Steve Jobs

    (Warning, link contains swearing)

YouTube - Green Day en Lima Peru American Idiot

Basically the frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong breaks off into a rant during the song "American Idiot" and starts bantering off about how technology is bad.

His disgusting comment though is when he says he 'can't wait until Steve Jobs dies of cancer'

    Hmm thoughts?

I'm hugely disappointed. I'm a big Green Day fan *hides from music snobs* and I thought that comment was disgusting. Especially for a man whose father died of cancer, and performed at Stand Up To Cancer charity concert just last month.

Sure there are some who are 'abusing' technology' by being anti-social or using it for negative means, but hate the player, not the game.

And for someone who claims people need to stop talking about politics, I think that's a little rich coming from a band whose two newest releases are politically driven, and he performs those songs every night with some commentary beforehand...

Good lord, there's enough cameras in the crowd to give Axl Rose an aneurism.

I liked Green Day better when it was pseudo punk...i.e about 15 years ago. This doesn't change my opinion of Billie one bit though and I'll continue to look for insightful prose elsewhere.
    This opinion intentionally left blank.

I think that's what sparked his rant. Everyone was filming on their iPhones/whatever else, and not really dancing around/singing to the music.

Obviously that's Steve Jobs' fault personally and his punishment should be to lose his battle with cancer

Starting to think maybe his ego's become out of hand. I'm a Green Day fan as well admittedly (although nowhere near as much as I used to be) and he's always been a notable character for his rants, but it was inevitable that he would eventually hit the wall that separates ranting with a meaning to just plain poor taste. It's purely coincidental he referenced Steve Jobs. The cancer remark was overstepping the line.

That aside, the technology bit, I'm inclined to agree. That's a topic for another time though.

I've never had much of an opinion on Green Day's lead. Now I just hate him.
If I were Steve, I'd pull the plug on their iTunes page.

wishing anyone to die of cancer is bad form!

I'm also in agreement with Decryption. Post Nimrod, Green Day is in decline and is no longer the punk band I used to enjoy.

Meh, there are several people I'd wish to die a long, horrible, painful death e.g. Fred Phelps.

I'm a massive Green Day fan, but after watching that, I've lost a lot of respect for Billie Joe, that is just going too far.

+1, no matter what the context.

All I heard in the clip was "blah blah teen angst blah blah". Wishing bad things on Obama isn't cool, either.

Bucking the trend here but i have to go as far as saying anything past Dookie was lame.

Best album they had was Kerplunk.

As for the comments, they are a sell out band that cares more about having pretty hair and the right shade of black eyeliner than the "causes" they sing about now.

Funny how when Apple were embracing Greenday they couldn't say enough good things about iTunes and Apple etc.

I think iTunes should pull all of Green Day's music, sod them, that's intolerable to say about anyone!

like their intention has anything to do with jobs' life-span. would it be okay to hope hitler died quickly? not implying jobs is hitler, but perhaps it isn't so outrageous to utter such a thing in certain circumstances.
