Default trade in at EB games

My son has indicated he wants a nintendo DSi for christmas. He currently has an old DS I got hold of for a carton of gold last year.

So not wanting to have the other one lying around, and not wanting to shell out nearly $300 for a new one, how does this trade in thingy work? Does anyone know what I would be likely to get for such an old console?

The EB Games website is not very forthcoming.

Basically you trade in the DS, all the games you have, your house, your car your wife and son and they will give the DSi but you will ned top pay $100.

They are balls and i would steer clear of them.

Sell the old one on eBay (where you should get $100 or so for it) and use that cash to buy a new DSi. EB will rip you off on the trade in price.

from a couple of enquiries I've made on the very same subject, if you trade in a DS lite on it's own you'll get around $50 credit. Sometimes they'll run a promo where you trade in a DS Lite & 1 game (usually from a list of game titles they want) then you'll get $100 credit.

even to trade in a white/black DSi for a blue/pink DSi costs $88!!

not sure how much an original DS (ie not DS Lite) would be worth, but it's not worth that same carton of gold anymore....!

Also worth noting that the new DSi XL will come into play in the near future, though not sure how near - it's being released in Japan very soon but not due Stateside until early 2010, so I'm not sure where Aus fits in amongst that!

Sounds like ebay is the go then. That would also allow me to surprise Master Entropy at xmas and then selling the old DS after xmas.

The XL looks quite interesting, but would a young boy trade off a larger form factor for the bigger screen?

PS: for clarification, this is a carton of gold, Yinyang

I was sort of hoping I might get what I paid for it ($30-$35)

The EB trade values change all the time. As yinyang said they do occasionally have deals and so your best bet is to actually call them and find out how much they'll give you. While their RRP are often absurd, you should be able to get them to price match another retailer and get a better deal. For example the current BigW catalogue has a DSi + Harry Potter + Professor Layton for $298 which is about the same price as a DSi at EB by itself.

Given that they are selling used DSs for $75, I doubt that you're going to get more than that on Ebay, especially when you factor in the fees and all the mucking around.

    Wondering though about EB Games.

Our NDS Lites are really badly damaged but functional enough to play with. Would EB Games accept ANY condition NDS Lite?

When I use to work at EB we took any functioning system no matter how trashed it looked!

As long as it turned on, charged and loaded games
