At least they can keep up on Twitter/online. Kev would have caught a lot of newspapers off guard tonight!

I have the feeling that the phrase "Hastily convened press conference in the middle of the night" actually says, "Kev chucked his toys big-time."

This is the first i've heard of such nonsense, last I knew he was being 'forced' to try and regain the role as PM. Stupid media, it is probably the driving force behind the resignation. Seriously i'd rather him as PM over Juliar any day.

It's going to be an interesting day on Monday. I'd hate to see KRudds roaming bill until then if he's still in the US.

If there is a leadership spill and Shorten puts his hand up (or worse, wins for some unfathomable reason) I'm leaving the country.

He's going to be there one day, worse luck. It will be "his turn" soon.

I actually find this time round far more interesting than last. From Rudd's remarks yesterday it really seems that he is either mounting this entirely by himself or with minimal factional influence. He really sounded quite determined to stamp out factional power brokers overwhelming influence in the party. How much of that could ever happen and how much of what he said is to be taken at face value is of course, of dispute.

Obviously he regards what happened to him as wrong and wants to change the party away from being so based on internal factional politics. What is interesting to me is that there must be a substantial number of like minded Labor MPs and even factional members that also share this view. It would be difficult for him to get close to a leadership spill without at least a little influence of those in the factions.

I'm sure the media is skewing the real facts; and ultimately nobody really knows the numbers until something's happens but itis still far more interesting to me this time round.

What gets me is that the government is jumping up and down like Rudd is holding a gun to their collective heads.

The guy just resigned from the front bench. If he has as little support as they suggest then all they had to do was ignore him and he'd just slink off to the back benches and that would be that. Now we have a leadership ballot on Monday, Crean making a dick of himself in public and everyone else pointing fingers saying "but...but...he started it".

    Fucking embarrassing.

He kind of is. Andrew Bolt made a good point today: "Rudd will have one further undeclared threat to sharpen MPs' minds: reject him roundly now, and he could quit Parliament. End of Government."

He may have the gun but they are the ones with their fingers on the trigger. He's sabre rattling now and they are getting jumpy. All the dirt that's coming out now, reasons for him being ousted in the first place are too little BS too late. They should have come clean about what they did and why they did it from the get-go. Bit late now and in the meantime they just let the Australian public form their opinion that Rudd is the underdog that's hard done by (and we all know what us Aussies think of underdogs)

Personally, if I was in his position I'd call it a day, force a re-election and retire on my ex-PM benefits.
