Discuss App Store apps for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch here.
Just thought I would share an App review with anyone interested. Not sure if this is the right place or anything and I've never done a review before so lets see how we go.
Sleep Steam iPhone App
It is currently 33% off on the iTunes store.
Sleep Steam is an App that plays ambient noises to help to
Sleep - Meditate - Relax - Focus - Energize.
Each one of these options plays a humming noise and a different speed, this can be played in the background of your chosen ambient sound (Gentle Stream for e.g) or you can just play the humming. So if you are in the mood to relax and you find that "Dreamy Wind Chimes" help you relax, you can select the Relax humming together with the wind chimes and you will be calm in no time!
SleepStream also has a timer setting to stop playing the sounds after 20 or 60 minutes or non stop. Helpful if you are trying to fall asleep and don't need the sounds playing all through the night.
Though I was already someone who could fall asleep straight away when I go to bed, I thought I would try this out because I recently removed my fish tank from my room and now its so quiet with only my iMac and bar fridge in here that it drives me crazy. I use the "Gentle Stream" sound with no humming, though I did try it with the "Sleep" humming, it didn't really make that much difference to me. I set it to disable after 20 minutes because I am long gone before then. The gentle stream is uncanny to what my fish tank sounded like! I have it connected to a dock, so it charges through the night and the dock has 2 speakers connected to it so the sound plays gently through those. You can use the iPhone speaker however.
You can get the lite version here. Its free, but there is no options you can choose from.

Likely that the "humming sound" is a version of a binaural beat, which is more effective when played through headphones ... though I'm not sure as I haven't tried this app.
I do use an app that is called, funnily enough, Binaural Beats. I found the app is useful, though haven't had much chance to use it yet. It also plays other relaxing sounds (i.e. waves, beachy sounds, etc.) but the beat is certainly the most prominent part. When I got it, it was free.
Uh yes! its for the headphone thing. How silly of me.
It sounds so different through the headphones too, it works really really well.
Nice website too, very interesting.

I purchased this today while it is on sale. Can only get the background music with headphones. Thought I'd be able to hear it without the headphones. Also, cannot seem to get the other sounds to operate.
Any ideas?
Thanks for the tip - have just grabbed and off to try it out!
