Default Issues with lightning digital AV adapter

Hey guys, wondering if anyones knows of a fix for this.
Yesterday i purchased a lightning digital AV adapter to stream NBA from the NBA gametime app to my TV through HDMi

I have an iPad Air and an iPhone5
Now here's the issue, it works with both devices but when i use it from my iPad Air it doesn't display full screen, it's just a larger version of the iPad screen with black bars on the top and sides. When i connect my iPad it displays full screen, no black bars.

Obviously i'd prefer it to display full screen but i'd also prefer to stream it from my iPad so i can take calls, messages, etc while watching the game.

Anyone have suggestions on how to fix this?

Guessing you tried double-tapping it to zoom in?

Might just be a limitation of the app itself.

Yeah double tap zooms but still has the black bars and they're not small black bars either, they're like 6-8" on the sides and 4" top and bottom

So i went into an Apple store today and found out what the issue is, iPad's aren't a proper widescreen format so they wont display that with the AV adapter unless using a specific file that is already in the widescreen format. eg. a 16:9 movie in the Apple Video app.
As the iPhone is already in widescreen format it will send the same signal to the TV through the AV adapter and display widescreen.

Hope this helps someone else with the same issue

For me I'll probably end up returning the adapter and just stream NBA with the gametime app on my PS4/PS3
