Default Using Optus Phone Insurance to Get a New iPhone 4

Since i have insurence on my iphone 3gs through optus what would happen if i lost it or it got stolen.

    Would i get a iphone 4?

If not what is the point of paying 13.99 a month?

My knowledge is limited, but a friend of mine, when here 16gb iPhone 3G was smashed about october last year (after the iPhone 3GS 16gb had replaced that model) hers was replaced under insurance by a refurbished 16GB 3G (so no upgrade).

That was through optus. Maybe they have a deal with apple to buy refurbs from them to use as insurance replacements?

You don't pay insurance to get a free upgrade though.

They don't have to give you an iPhone 4, they just have to find a 3GS.

And like I tell everyone, check your home contents insurance, that covers it sometimes, ring them and save yourself the money on the telco insurance each month!

Mine just gave me the money for a new iPhone when my hubby dropped and broke mine about 9 months ago!

If it got lost or stolen you could make an insurance claim. They could either replace it with a 3GS or give you the value of the lost/stolen phone toward the purchase of a replacement.

If you make a claim that your phone is lost/stolen whien it isnt then that would be fraud. Not a good thing.

Insurance is exactly that, insurance to protect you against lost and stolen goods. It should not be used as a tool for you to upgrade your phone whne you want to. if everyone did that its just going to drive montly premiums up.

I lost my iPhone 3G overseas last year. I was upgraded to a 3GS through Optus Insurance.

I would say that in this case you will be given a 3GS if you made a claim on insurance.

I dropped my insured iPhone 3G 16GB off at my nearest Optus store last week as the microphone had stopped working, and was told by the insurance claims guys that if the phone could be refurbished they would do that and I would get my original phone back (and have to pay an excess of $100), but if not they would replace it with a 16GB iPhone 4 (and have to pay an excess of $250).

I mean, I'll take the iPhone 4 if I'm offered it, but I would have preferred my microphone not to stop working in the first place :/

edit: They weren't sure if there'd by any wait times for the iPhone 4 (if I'm offered one), but said that phones provided under their insurance system come from different stock than retail ones.

(and yeah, the point of paying for your insurance is, uh, so that you're, uh, insured)

i lost my iPhone 3g 16gb nearly 2 months ago and when my replacement came in, it was 16 gb 3GS . i was surprised and ask the optus guy what happened and he said they might not have in stock the 3g model .

So if your mobile wanna get lost or something, wait atleast few months and then maybe you get lucky :P and they send you 16gb iPhone 4 instead of 16gb 3GS because of no stock of 3GS.

What home contents insurer do you use? I broke my iPhone 3GS last year and my home insurer would not pay out as they said it did not cover mobile phones. I had to buy a replacement from Apple.
