I am with Optus at the moment and have discovered that just because you have the full five bars and that little 3G logo does not mean that the data flows down the pipe - and I have had enough of that so thought it was time to try Vodaphone.

Would like to try Telstra but by the time you add up the cap cost + sms (not included in cap) + upfront handset costs it all works out to be 100% more expensive in the first 12 months than Vodaphone ( thats not adding that Voda has tethering free, and 1GB, and mate to mate)

I live in Canberra but travel quite a lot so am hoping it will be a good option.

Despite their dodgy website description Telstra includes SMS in their caps, and their Telstra mobile bonus comes out before going onto the standard cap...

Standard Cap - most national direct dial voice and video calls (which includes calls to fixed and mobile numbers in Australia), directory assistance calls to 1225, 1236, 124124, 12488, 125125, 12522, 12555, 1268, calls prefixed with 130, 131, 132, 133, 1340, 1342, 1343, 1344, 1345, 1346, 1347, 1348, 1349, 135, 136, 137, 138, 139, national standard mobile originating text messages, picture and video messages, MessageBank diversion and retrieval charges (voice and video) and any other calls determined as eligible by us.

    http://telstra.com.au/customerterms/...rrentplans.pdf

You can put the handset on interest free payments, so that the typical monthly spend will be $81.88 for a 32GB model, compared to $74 for Vodafone. Not as much 'value' and a lot less data, but much better coverage. You pays your money and you takes your choice...

Thanks for that Samuel - that saves $20 or so on sms - I would be cool with only the 300mb data as I dont use that much but $29 seems rather expensive for 300mb data these days.

Yes, coverage is much better but its just a cost/benefits juggling act.

Default Summary of iPhone 3GS Plans?

Silly question, but does anyone know if NeoRicen's combination graphic here is still up to date?

I've checked a few of the plans from Optus, and they seem to be the same as Neo's summary. Just wondering about the rest... I can check them all myself if necessary, but if someone's already done just that, then obviously it'd save a fair bit of time.

    Cheers!
