Default How To Follow The WWDC Keynote

So, Apple has announced the date for the WWDC Keynote, but you're not a rich developer/didn't get enough notice/can't be bothered sitting in a metal coffin for 14 hours! How are you supposed to follow what's going on and see what new goodies Apple has for us?

Read this FAQ to find out!

Q: When is the Keynote being held?

A: On Monday the 7th of June, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, likely at 10:00AM (confirmed).

That equates to the following times on Tuesday the 8th of June in Australia:

1:00AM in Western Australia
2:30AM in the Northern Territory and South Australia
3:00AM in Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria & Tasmania

Q: Who will be delivering the presentation?

A: As is tradition, Steve Jobs will make the presentation (hence its nickname, the Stevenote). While Scott Forstall and Phil Schiller will probably make an appearance (and possibly Jony Ive if an iPhone in a new form factor is unveiled, as seems all but confirmed), expect Steve to handle the bulk of the announcement as a demonstration of his continuing recovery from liver transplant surgery.

Q: What is Apple going to announce at this event?

A: The fourth-generation iPhone, the release date of iPhone OS 4, and possibly a developer preview of Mac OS X 10.7. Beyond that, not much is known - although the Mac Pro is long overdue for a refresh.

Q: Will Apple stream the event live?

A: Unlikely, as they have not done so for years.

Q: Is there another way to follow the event live?

A: Yes, while Apple themselves doesn't offer the content of the event until after it has finished, many hard working bloggers and journalists post a continuous stream of short text updates about what is happening on stage in what is called a 'live blog'. Links will be posted here as they become available.

Q: Will MacTalk be covering the keynote?

A: Still TBD. There may be a live/streaming podcast, or there may even be a live blog from the Moscone Center itself. Stay tuned!

Q: Will Apple make a video of the event available?

A: While Apple hasn't actually announced plans to release a video of the keynote, they have released videos of every event for the last several years without announcing their intentions to do so ahead of time.

Q: When will they make the video available?

A: Videos are usually posted the afternoon of the event, which is usually by 12pm AEST.

Q: How can I get the event video when it is made available?

Once the video is made available, a link should appear on the front page of Apple.com and on Apple's events page.

Alternatively you can subscribe to the Apple Keynotes podcast (iTunes link) using iTunes. The event video should be added to the podcast feed around the same time it is posted to Apple's website.

If you are working, at school, or just want to watch the keynote spoiler-free, subscribe to the podcast and set it to refresh every hour, and it should be ready for you when you get home in the afternoon.

Although we can be 99.9999% sure of certain things, knowing what we do and with history as a guide, we can never be entirely certain as anything that Apple hasn't announced doesn't exist.

I love the USA!
Wrapt to be going back and seeing the other coast. Get to also have a photo taken outside infinite loop

Anyways, this thread is about following WWDC, not my holiday blog, heh.

MacTalk will have an audio feed of some type, at the very least, there will be the usual live commentary. Also expect a podcast recorded in SF with some Aussie devs

Decryption has mentioned on todays podcast the details for the live MacTalk podcast covering the WWDC keynote next Tuesday Morning.

I am sure Decryption will post all the details on the homepage closer to the date, but we will be doing things a little different this year.

As Decryption will be in San Fran for the event, I have donated the use of the studios at my community radio station to host the broadcast and add something slightly different this time around.

We will be conducting the broadcast live on 94.1FM for those Melbourne listeners out there who choose to listen on the radio and of course via streaming for everyone else.

Here are the details:

WHEN?

12am:
I will be going to air from MIDNIGHT on Monday night/Tuesday morning. During this time I will be playing some tunes and have a little chat about whats happening and covering off on some of the speculation and rumours about what is expected to happen.

Approx 2:30am:
The broadcast 'proper' will start.
The broadcast crew will catch up with Anthony via phone prior to the broadcast and doing the final round up of what to expect.

3:00am
The Keynote will begin and we will be going through the live blogs and giving you a description of whats happening.

After the Keynote: We will again talk to Decryption about his experience of seeing the Steve in action and what he thinks of the announcements made at the keynote.

Once we have nothing else to say, I will play some music and general chat until around 6:00am.

And thats about it.

How To Listen:

As mentioned before, you will be able to listen live via 3 ways:

Radio: 94.1FM in Melbourne (Eastern Suburbs will get the best reception)
streaming1: streaming via MacTalk.com.au
Streaming2: via the streaming service on: www.3wbc.org.au

We will announce some ways you can keep in contact with us throughout the broadcast as we get closer to the event.

We hope you will listen in.

Come on dude, you've used exactly the same format/questions as I have done for years, and you don't even give any credit!

Hell, you've even directly copy and pasted some sections of the answers from mine!

Real classy.

It would have been nice if you'd just asked, or done it without completely ripping me off.

The only reason I was doing them is because MacTalk was doing a lousy job of this kind of info every time and the forum was full of the same questions as a result. I would've welcomed you posting my measly bit of 'work' if you'd just asked, but no, you just copied and pasted what I'd done (forgetting a couple of links, by the way*) and didn't even give credit.

It wouldn't have even been that hard to write your own damn FAQ, but you were too fucking lazy to even do that, you have to copy and past mine exactly!

*Proving you were too damn lazy to even press the quote button and get the tags for the links!

Completely agree it's a great idea and we've done it poorly in the past, which is why this time we used your format and did it right when WWDC was announced.

Forum, the "How to Follow" format was originated by NeoRicen and as such he deserves our thanks. However, as he correctly points out we need to be more on the ball with this stuff, which is why we'll be posting these threads moving forward rather than just thoughtlessly assuming that NeoRicen will just take care of it.

Thank you for that.

Though as I'm sure you're aware, I hope next time you do something like this you don't just copy someone else's stuff exactly without at least letting them know.

For the record, I'm fine with you taking over with this in the future, even using my format/answers, my only problem is that I wasn't asked.
