$39 for a back glass replacement on iPhone 4.
$249 for refurb iPhone 3GS.
Couldn't find a thread for this so thought it might be useful for people to list the costs associated with iPhone repairs at Genius bars around the place.
Had front glass replaced on a 3GS yesterday (16/1/11) and was only charged $130.
Apparently this is a recent price drop as previously you were hit with $280 for a refurb phone.
Anyone else noticed changes?

the back of my 4 is well scratched, and this scratch proof type screen everyone believes they have, I have also proven wrong.
Also I dont go out of my way to scratch the phone and I am normally pretty careful of the phone, like not putting it in the same pocket as keys etc.
$39.00 for the back pannel is extremely suprising! Is that through Apple themselves?
that sucks to hear about the back panel scratching. either i am lucky or i am still being too gentle with it.

Guys,
Do check out this link:
Swap out your iPhone 4's rear glass with a replacement panel from voBack
You can swop a glass back for a cool metal equivalent. Quite a good upgrade, IMO![]()

I don't think they just replaced the glass. I took my 3gs with non functioning home button in, was told the whole front panel could be replaced and was quoted the same price as being a "special."
I actually thought they had dropped the price because i mentioned i was still under my telco's contract period but out of Apple warranty.
We don't have an Apple store here but I'm heading to Sydney soon and thought I might take my 3GS into the George St store, I have had it less than a year and I have a cracked screen, will I get it replaced under warranty ? Or will I have to pay $130, and do they do it on the spot?
Thanks, Vid

Wouldn’t have thought that cracked screens were covered under warranty. I paid $2x0 for a refurb (something, I think it was $250) even covered by Applecare. I think I had an option of replacing the screen only. But it was quite a bad impact that caused the cracked screen, so who knew what internal damage there was. And the battery wasn’t holding much of a charge even before the impact.
It helps to make an appointment because they do ask you to do so and come back another day if they are very busy.
If it's your fault (which a cracked screen most definitely would be) then the chances are extremely high that you will be charged. All the genuises I have come into contact with have been pretty understanding and helpful, but I think a cracked screen is pretty hard to get around in terms of what they can get away with.
$249, straight-swap.
does the $249 straight swap work for a phone I've water damaged (not in warranty)? I'd rather do that than buy out my existing contract?
Yes
