    Default External Microphone for iPhone

    Hi
    Anyone know where I can get an adapter in Australia for attaching an external microphone and headphones to an iPhone?
    Something similar to this: iPhone 1/8 inch microphone and headphone adapter - 3.5mm 4 conductor TRRS Male to 3.5mm TRS Jacks
    I would like to use the iPhone to record interviews for podcasting. Hopefully the external microphone will allow better sound/recording quality, and the headphones can be used to listen live for any volume adjustments needed.

    have you already got a usb microphone handy? you might be able to try it with the iPad camera connection kit - use the usb -> dock connector cable and it might work for you. I have used it to connect my Yeti mic to the iPad and it worked fine but didn't for the iPhone, I suspect it is because it can't draw enough power.

    Thanks. But need it for the iPhone, not the iPad, as I don't have an iPad and I want to be able to use the HD video to make Vodcasts one day...

    GDoolan - did you ever manage to buy an iPhone 1/8 inch microphone adapter - 3.5mm 4 conductor TRRS Male to 3.5mm Microphone Input Jack in Australia?

    Ahh - I have an answer: Touchmic.com have a Olympus TP7 Telephone Conversation Recorder COMBO set (which includes the microphone adaptor) for 37USD. They are currently out of stock. I received this reply:

    "We do ship to Australia, so this is not an issue. However we are currently experiencing some issues with the combos due to Apples iOS upgrades. We are searching for a workaround fix on the adapter in order to get the telephone mic to work. We expect to have it back for sale mid June [2011]".
