Default I keep getting the same SMS message twice

I've recently started to receive duplicate text messages randomly. Sometimes I get the duplicates, sometimes I don't. It doesn't seem to have any pattern. It's just that I receive some texts twice within minutes.

Does this have anything to do with my settings or the fact that I've recently synced my gmail contacts with my iphone contacts? The 4.0 update seems to have put a few bugs into my iPhone 3G. Does anyone else have this same problem and how did you fix it? Thanks very much

Are you actually getting the message twice? As in, if you go to messages it will appear two times in the conversation?

If not that's simply a second notification because you didn't read it straight away. Control this in Settings > Messages > Repeat Alert On/Off

Yes I get it twice, as in they follow seconds apart.

I got the same SMS six times the other day. About a minute apart. The sender swears they only sent it once.

I quite often get double SMS's. Mostly from Optus (my wife) and Telstra (family). I'm on Vodafone.

Looks like it's a iPhone bug then.
I thought it was a carrier issue, but looks like it's non specific to a certain carrier.

My girlfriend is on Telstra, I'm on Vodafone. Quite often I'll receive her text messages twice, she'll sometimes receive mine several times. Also there seems to be a huge lag sometimes between us receiving messages. Don't know if this is unique to the iPhone (3GS) or the network?

I had this on both my 3G and my iP4...
I agree that its really random.
I'm on Otus, and apparently i don't just receive texts twice, i sometimes send them twice too.
this happened when my partner had a nokia and also now that he has a 3Gs, so apparently its not just iPhone to iPhone either...

I to have had this problem however, sometimes I have received the same message up to 8 times, within the minute Doesn't worry me or the person sending it because we both have unlimited SMS. It doesn't happen with the one person either, it has happened with different people, different phones.

This has been happening to me lately on my 3GS, only when receiving messages from people on Vodafone, and I'm on Virgin. It happened on my Nokia E63 a few days ago so I don't think it's just on the iPhone.

Call your carrier and mention it to them. If it's on more than one handset, it's likely a network setting issue for your SIM.

This happens to me almost everyday, usually from my wife as its her i text most often.

Funnily enough it never happens with international SMS messages.
