Telstra has released a carrier update (v5.1) this morning which enables tethering.

(I know there are rumour threads but I thought I'd start a new one to make sure ppl saw it).

Default Yes, but WHERE is it?

    Hi,

Thanks for letting us know about the bundle, however I can't find ANYTHING about how to installs/download/use etc.

Can you please provide a link to where we can get the bundle.

    Thanks!

Yeah, sorry. Carrier updates are automatic. Just sync your iPhone. If it doesn't alert you to new carrier settings just click "Check for updates".

Looks like I'll be upping my Data Pack *hugs super awesome Telstra staff plan where excess data above data pack comes out of cap giving me 1GB+ when I need it*

Hmm so did I, but I've already snowed/blackrained it, so I'm not sure how to tell what's changed or been updated.

    Any suggestions?

Updated, works fine. I'm jb'd but hadn't installed any tethering hacks so it just works normally for me.

So I guess Apple must have finally allowed Telstra to turn on tethering, eh *wink* *wink* *wink* *nudge* etc.

    Better late than never, Telstra

Awesome news. Who would have thought something from Telstra would be free. Beats Optus' $240 a year charge for tethering.

It never made any sense as "Mobile as a Modem" is a feature of every Next G handset and always has been, with all data charged at the same rates (whether you use it on the handset or as modem, just depends on your pack/plan for the rate).

Telstra just divided their packs as those suitable for browsing on the handset ($5 for 5MB, $10 for 150MB & $29 for 300MB) and those suitable for mobile as modem ($59 for 1GB, $89 for 5GB & $119 for 9GB).

I was just reading that the plan that goes with the Nokia Booklet 3G in the US on AT&T is $60 for 5GB. Telstra doesn't look too bad compared to that consider ing the quality of the Next G network.

Disclaimer: I work for Telstra Business...

I've updated the iPhone, but how do you actually use tethering? Do I just plug it in my computer and off she goes?

Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering

Then connect via USB or Bluetooth.

Awesome, i just need a second job so the pineappling doesn't hurt so much, my current $66/GB is all i can bear, and i just can't bring myself to "upgrade" to paying $96.66/GB so that i can get myself an extra 150MB.

Fuck Telstra. I hope the feds rip you into a million pieces.
