Default iPhone 3GS Touch Screen not working

    hey all.
3GS 16gb black about 2 weeks old.. working perfectly since new until tonight. went to footy training, came back and the screen suddenly doesn't respond to touch very well. took about 10 minutes to unlock it as i couldn't put in my passcode.. turning it off for 10 minutes (incase it was hot) didn't work either..
Finally got it unlocked and it was going haywire.. tried to write sms and it was acting as if i was mashing all the screen at once (it very quickly wrote about 10 lines of garbage).

I have plugged it into itunes and restored fresh, and its still doing it!
    anyone had the same??

i take it my screen is a dud, and will need replacing - however my colleague today tried to get a 3GS through optus who said they have no stock for another month (!!!) and in a month i go to new york for 3 weeks..

i guess posting here won't help much.. but it's just venting... so angry right now!

Hey that really sucks, my condolences

I have seen this with a friend of mine, the screen had several dead sectors on the screen. He called Apple 133622 and they replaced his 3G within 10 business days. I know 3GS stock could be low but contacting Apple directly could be your best chance of seeing one before your trip.

    Best of luck.

Yeah I was lead to believe that I needed to contact my carrier.... But I have had several issues with telstra and warranty replacement (never again).

I have only just received my partners 3G back from apple warranty repair, they had no issues replacing it... I would assume the 3GS is the same deal.

    Default Warranty replacements

Not sure if you've got your phone sorted yet or not. My 3G had a camera issue a couple of months back (any photo's appeared pink and green) so I took it straight to the Apple store in Sydney city, and they replaced it within about 10 minutes. (It was still under warranty)

Anyway, I gave my 3G to my gf, and got the new 3GS for myself. I'm loving it for the most part. However for the past week or so, the screen seems to be playing up. Any applications on the right hand side cannot be launched - if you try to launch them, then the active desktop slides to the previous one. You can rearrange the apps to your hearts content, but whatever is on the right hand edge can't be launched. It's also getting progressively worse.

So I'll see how it goes taking this in to the Apple store. Could be interesting.

Talk to Apple - they have a service where they will send you a new phone and you send the old one back when you get the new one - eg an exchange program
