It was always going to be on the 18th, it's due to the time difference that it seems like we are getting it a day later. It will be released, by Apple, on the 17th Sept, or should I say, the file will be placed on the Cupertino server on that day.

Apple websites, aren't independtly run, so occasionally, someone who is updating the pages, screws up, something I am sure we all do occasionally.

Considering that by the time the software goes live, they'll only be a few countries that have clicked over to the next day.

Sigh. Here's a nice diagram to help explain why you're getting the software update on the 18th and America's getting it on the 17th. Regardless of the date, you are in fact getting it at the same time!

    The more you know.

It will be 11:59PM Cupertino time on the 17th, which is 4:59PM on the 18th here. I have seekrit knowledge!*

    * Or you should just assume that's what time it happens, and if it comes any earlier then it will be a pleasant surprise.

Maybe we should run a book on what time it will become available.

My tip is about 8:00pm tonight EST.

the reasoning behind this is that Apple would want to have it available for all time zones on the day... but at a time that would allow their servers to handle the load.

If they released it at 11am in the morning, their servers would get hammered from the get go.

Thats my thoughts.... i dont know what you guys think.

I foresee a thread entitled "Mouse button now longer works".

    It'll go something like this:

"I was up all night constantly clicking on "Check for updates" in Itunes in preparation for OS3.0, but my mouse button no longer works. Can anyone help?"

Enjoying what, the existence of the international date line and longitudinal timezones? Oh yeah - they'd be having a blast.

    Yeah, that's what I meant...

The reason so many things in life sound so ridiculous to you is probably related to the fact that you speak before you think.

Oh, I see what you're saying Exocet.... you're saying if I set the clock on my Mac to the same time as Cupertino, CA I can get the update tonight!?! Great!

Going by the last iphone update, I am going to take a stab and say we will get it around 11pm tonight. At that time it's close to 6am in Cupertino. Knowing apple, they would want people to have it before they head off to work.
