Default So I smashed my iPhone Screen...

I dropped my iPhone from about a meter today onto concrete and the glass screen is now smashed. (see pics)

I have no insurance on the phone, and it is on a plan. Does anybody have any estimates of the cost of getting a repair, or if I should just buy a new one.

    Thanks.

    phone still works and everything..

Call Apple and ask about repairs, or call your carrier and ask about a replacement. They're probably the only people who can give you the answers your after.

Also, what sort of house hold insurance do you have? You might be able to claim the replacement on that.

That's why I added insurance. Especially since I don't have a hard case.

Edit: It's not as bad as my mates...who's entire screen is shattered after it fell out of his shirt pocket and onto the concrete floor. I must get a picture of it one day. It still works though!

There is absolutely no need to get it replaced... You can buy cheap screens off Ebay an other apple repair sites! When you buy it call an Apple re seller or authorized repair place and ask them to instal it!
Its as easy as eating a pie! LOL.... Good luck!

Er might they not want to see the phone before they'll let someone add insurance?

I don't think we should be encouraging insurance fraud on these forums.

Hmm, does anybody have an phone number for Apple Australia for these kind of things. The apple website is confusing in the support section.

Hmm, yeah, I should uphold some ethical behaviour on these forums...

There's a place in Cannington (Carousel Shopping Centre) that does repairs called Haiou Mobile Express. From looking at their business card they also have stores at Galleria, Midland Gate and Whitford City.

I was quoted $189 to replace the glass in my iphone. I presume they replace the glass and digitizer and retain your working LCD. Given that you can get the parts on ebay for about $80, I thought this price was reasonable given you don't have to risk damaging your iphone further by trying to pry it open yourself. I haven't used them though as my screen only has a small crack on the edge which I can live with (on my 12 month contract).
    Pic here

Let me know if you go through them, I'd be interested to see how it turns out.

There is this option, but it is quite pricey.
    iPhone 3G Display - iFixit

I remember reading somewhere that if you take your iPhone into one of the Apple stores they charge you something like $375 and give you a new iPhone (replacement cost).

I don't think so. It activates by making a call, and surely his iPhone will still be able to do that .

Take it to an "Apple", Apple store (as in Sydney, Chadstone, Chatswood) and ask about repairable damage options.

Do not go and stick a dodgy screen from ebay on it. A its hard and dangerous and B you will void your warranty

    Default ipodjuice in US

I found a site that might help you - it is called ipodjuice.com but they are in the states:

iPod Screens and iPod LCD's are Here

it appears that you could do the install yourself but they discourage you from doing that since it's hard to open an iphone and close it up with you being able to tell what you did.

i'd suggest letting someone else take the risk and just sendit to them.

    Default Iphone glass repairs

Haiou Mobile Express in Cannington Carousel Morley Whitsfords and Midland are actually cheaper than the person previously mentioned in the post this is because:

The iphone glass for 3gs and for 3g is different therefore there are different prices for each

    the iphone 3gs is $189
    and the 3g is $130

In the event you break you LCD like i did cause i tried to change the glass myself without taking the 8 screws out then it will cost an extra $170 for the screen so my advice go see a repairer
