Ah good, I was missing my regular dose of Optus bashing. Feel better now.
Mmm, our favourite journalist.
Yes! He is my favourite - that article is spot on.
There is an issue with Optus's network, it's nowhere near as fast as it should be. They've oversold their capacity and now it's biting them in the arse.
I'm glad Asher wrote that article as it's a topic that needs more coverage (heh, pardon the pun).
I write a lot of shit here: http://anthonywrites.posterous.com
Now will Optus take note with the Age article or just keep providing the worst quality service world wide ?
I really feel sorry for you folks on Optus, but didn't we discuss this before the launch ?
I haven't really been bothered to use internet on my iPhone coz of the Optus's 3G speed. So slow..... worse than a turtle.....

Not really relevant to pre and post launch. Post launch their network couldnt handle it. Pre launch it could. Their network has not got the capacity to deal with the amount of data transiting it. Pre-launch 3G speeds were good.
Oh well maybe they'll fix it before someone sues them :P
"Some say, that if you hold him in the wrong way, he doesn't work properly..."

hopefully they fix it soon
the majority of my suburb has NO 3g coverage, but it's listed on their coverage maps. it was working a day or so after i got my phone, then it seems like they just turned it off
good article ..though i will question the speed test...
a more reliable test will be the OzSpeed test...as it touches the Optus servers.
but anywho...a good consistent review of Optus on 3g
hope they take notice..
Thank God I am with 3!

The irony is the iphone will be blamed for the problems by less knowledgable users who don't understand where the problems really come from.

OPTUS really need to make a statement soon, when Telstra starts to look good you knoe you are in trouble.

YouTube seems to be working and is still at acceptable speeds. The net hasn't been that slow. Maybe it depends on the suburbs?
iPhone newbie.
I was showing off my iPhone last night to the Blackberry crowd. They were in awe ...... until they saw how slow the 3G speeds were on Optus. Simply embarrassing!
Luckily one of my mates had a Tel$tra $IM. I simply popped it in and they were in awe once again at the lightning speed of 3G.
Got to hand it to Tel$tra. They may be expensive but the speed of their 3G is far far superior than Optus. I guess you get what you pay for.
This was a good story. I'm having exactly the same issues in Brisbane CBD and inner North.
At the current state that Optus is in, I would never recommend someone using Optus as their network for business needs. The number of times I received the SMS letting me know that someone called yet didn't leave a message was amazing.
I'm sure things will improve with Optus in the future, but for the time being I wouldn't recommend Optus

QUOTE: "A global survey of iPhone 3G users by Wired magazine found Optus offered the slowest network speeds of any iPhone carrier worldwide. Speed tests published in the latest issue of APC magazine appear to confirm these findings"
Yet another reason to smile for those who chose telstra I have had perfect performance from there network :-)
