Default Optus: Never had 16GB iPhones for Prepaid??

I placed the $100 dollar deposit in June and woke up bright and early this morning just to be told by Optus staff that there are no 16GB iPhones for prepaid plans.

No, not that they ran out of 16GB iPhones for prepaid, but that there wouldn't be any 16GB iPhones for prepaid plans from Optus.

    I'm totally befuddled.

Checked with more than three Optus World staff at ultimo, and there's no point in me even putting down my name on the waiting list for 16GB phones (cos they ran out even for postpaid), since I wanted them with a prepaid plan - cos 16GB iPhones don't come with prepaid.

Correct me if I'm wrong. If this is the case, why's there the $849 price released weeks before today for 16GB iPhones with prepaid?

What's going on? I feel a little fooled and obviously terribly disappointed.

Did anyone here get a 16GB iPhone with prepaid at all?

Probably the demand for postpaid ones was too high.

    Interesting thread.

Is there anyone out there with a 16GB prepaid iPhone?

If so, were you a deposit holder?

According to the Optus website the 16's are available on pre-paid. Prepaid Mobile Apple iPhone
Looks like they are trying to get as many people to sign up to plans as they can though :/

Well, I asked the guy specifically whether it's just that store that ran outta 16GB iPhones on Prepaid, and he said 16GB iPhones just don't come on prepaid which, as I mentioned, blew me away.

He checked that with at least two other colleagues, and it seems to be true.

    What's happening Optus?!

Argh... ARGH! No I'm hoping there'll be 16GB iPhones on prepaid coming in in the next month or so. Sigh.

There are 2 different versions of the phone.

One is Post-paid, with a sim already inside, needing to be unbricked by the carrier, while another is pre-paid, where the unit leaves the store in shrink wrap.

Optus ran out of pre-paid models very quickly. (There were 1 or none at the Brisbane store).

The Optus world store in melbourne CBD (collins st) had only 4 pre-paid phones and the first guy or first 2 walked out with all 4 of them!
There was this girl there who had been there all night and wanted the pre-paid but could not!!! What a bummer!

you'd think it would be false advertising if they have it on their plans online and instore they say its not part of their pre-paid plans.

as wise says above, if some has got them, then its a store issue, not optus.

Apparently, in the Preston store that I lined up outside, no 16GB were allocated to pre-paid customers. Only 4 x 8GB were reserved for pre-paid. The first three in line (and their respective partners) snapped up all the 16GB models. So we had to be content with the 2 x white 16GB (not at all popular) or the 8GB models.

There were 3 pre-paid at the store that I went to. They were all black....but can't remember if they were 8GB or 16GB (I thought 16....but not cetain). I didn't take the prepaid option since I liked the Optus plan and it works out cheaper to be on that over the 24 months.
There were about 10 black 16GB and 10 white 16GB and 20-30 8GB iPhones. The 16GB would have definately all gone to deposit people. There were probably 30 deposit people when I left and that was at 7:40am. There were 3 non-deposit people waiting when I left as well.

There were about a dozen prepaid iPhones at Optus World Chadstone, they were snapped up in about half an hour by deposit holders.

I am pretty sure they have prepaid Optus 8 and 16GB iPhones. They just don't have enough.

Patience my friend. I'm in the same boat as you. Missed out today.
