I suspect that the river, in some parts not merging to the sea, is perhaps a navigation thing? I've no experience with this, but it would make some sense if there is a navigation channel in the river that this is what they show.

Anyway, updates will come. I'm still trying to work out if I get faster updates if I send a correction to Apple via Maps reporting, or using Yelp.

There's still a third of the month to go, and there's an event on Tuesday. Whenever Apple specify a month, just assume they mean the last day of the month.

So end of November they say December maybe they should not of released a Alpha version of a product just to stick it up Google.

I've given up on that useless, below-alpha nonsense that was forced on iOS users. Until Google picks up their game, Maps+ is a decent replacement, even if the search is a bit dodgy:

They've updated their site to say 'November' now. I realise it was a pretty safe bet but I called this in September, that iTunes 11 and turn-by-turn wouldn't make an appearance in October like promised :-P

I still don't know why people are getting all bent out of shape over this. Seriously guys, its a completely new app for them, and there are issues of whether its accurate anyway. If you get turn by turn now *and* actually use it, god knows where you'll end up. Google didnt get theirs going overnight (or just a couple of months after release) so why are you expecting it of Apple?

My comment was aimed at the deadline, not so much the turn-by-turn feature itself.
I just donít like the silent updating of things like this. Feels like they have something to hide, and with all the hoopla with maps over the last month or so, I just think they need to be a little more open about these (although minor) issues.

Apple doesn't deserve a free pass here. They replaced an amazingly good app, with a bad one. Yes it is bound to get better, but they sold it as the best thing since sliced bread.

Then they promised turn by turn in October for us on their website, and then just silently said November. That's a broken promise, and they should be held accountable for that too.

Had they said maps was 'beta' and offered Google Maps in the interim, or said turn by turn in Australia was coming in '2012' then we'd have nothing to be angry about.

Sure. they should not have been so definite. But given how slowly google maps progressed, are you *really* surprised? I'm not. Its not something thats going to be done in the short time they have given it and I would not be surprised if it didn't turn up in November, either. Its not even logical to expect it, regardless of what they say. If it does, great. If not, dont be surprised. And don't be surprised if its half-arsed because they are pushing it out the door too quickly in response to the outcry.

Possibly. It just seems that people expect Apple to be perfect, and its not. I never thought for one minute that their maps would be as good as Google's regardless of what they said. Are you telling me you are a 100% true believer? Seriously?

In any case I am sure most of you already have Tomtom, Sygic, Navigon or some other on board. Not having a fully functioning Apple maps is not going to be that difficult to take. Unless you make it so. In the meantime theres maps+ or google maps in a browser. And you never had turn by turn in google maps (unless you were on Android).

Turn by Turn I still use TomTom I have Sygic although gave up on it a while ago. (It supposed to be better now)
I used google maps just to have a quick look up when I am walking around. Apple Maps does not work that well.
So I use Safari and Google maps which is not as easy as it was before when native,
I do think they jumped the gun to male sure Google was not read with there own. The youtube app is ok just does not work well on a ipad.
