I just joined the USvideo site and I got the BBC to work wonderfully!

But when ever I go to the hulu site it sends me to the "congratulations you can watch straight away" page on USvideo?

I installed Plex but it says there are no tv shows and movies in the HULU app in there? just a few hickups I am sure I can figure out with a bit of help?

    hulu works fine for me.

You might need to do the "check service" in case your ip has changed?

Your account is active US Video for the World

otherwise consider putting the DNS @ the router rather than at the individual device as some services arent fooled at device level and see the router DNS.

Thanks for all of the advice.
The problem was with my home sharing. It was set up using my .Mac account in Australia.
Now the only issue I have is with the buffering. My set up is wifi, so presumably changing this to an Ethernet connection will make a big difference?

Yep. my ipad (over wifi obviously) buffers a few times during a movie. No buffering whatsoever with the appletv plugged in via ethernet.

As above. I've only done it with ethernet and had no hitches, even when renting HD movies or Netflix.

I've just bought a network switch for my home theatre setup. I have Foxtel IQ2, BRD, Xbox 360 and ATV all requiring or offering access to internet features. It seems these days you pretty much need an ethernet connection running to your television.

I already use a VPN service from StrongVPN - do you know if your solution is replicable with other VPN-type services?

Test it from your Desktop and confirm

You would need to configure the VPN at your modem/router so that it pushed all traffic through the VPN (including apple TV) as the apple tv doesnt have any VPN configuration available.

    Thank you.

Just set this up tonight with the trial from USVideo and Netflix.

First movie I watched played perfectly.

I don't think I'll bother with getting US iTunes credit at this stage though. Netflix seems pretty awesome. Definitely worth the $13 a month.

Also, although you need to set your mac to go through the USVideo DNS, you can turn that off again once the Netflix account is setup. Just set the Apple TV to use it. If you set it at the router then all your traffic will go through USVideo which is a bit shit.

I can also attest to this solution working perfectly. I have some concerns this will one day just stop working so i am only buying one month at a time of usvideo subscription (after the free week is up)

My only issue is getting the xbmc client working with netflix (Boxee and plex work but they are very flaky compared to the netflix website) It can connect and shows my queue and can browse, when i go to play a video it just hangs and occasionally show an error (The video failed to play, see the log for details)

Any one able to get XBMCflix to work?

Can I just check that this is still working for people? It worked flawlessly yesterday and I even watched a couple of things, but today movies wouldn't load. I tried re-entering in the DNS settings and now it says "Netflix is unavailable from this location".

Would I be correct in saying that when getting the 2 DNS IP addresses, you set your location as Australia and New Zealand?

Mine isn't saying "Netflix is unavailable"...but it is saying that it can't be accessed right now. Maybe they're down at the moment. I'll try later.

EDIT: Working again as of 11:40am QLD time.

    And yep about the DNS.

With the not at this location problem popping up on the apple tv, I had it too so I just reformatted the apple tv and started again, is all fine now,

and yes, netflix was down for us earlier too .

But other than a couple of glitches, it's wonderful!

Mine was working, then for the last couple of hours it was saying 'Not available'.

Then I put it to sleep and unplugged it and restarted it again. Netflix asked for my username and password again and now it says:
"Unable to sign in. Sorry we could not configure your device. Please try again later. If the problem persists please visit the Netflix website."

Anyone seen that before? The DNS is still setup with the correct IP.

if you have issues always do the check first before trying anything else Your account is active US Video for the World

your IP address may have changed

    and

to avoid any internal network conflict between DNS's that are brodcast at the device, configure the DNS IP's @ the router if you are having issues - How to set up US Video for the World

I found that changing the settings on my router did bugger all, I still had to change every device.

Try reformatting the Apple TV and starting again, ours seemed to lose the settings for some reason, I think it was because I plugged in the Ethernet and only had the settings for wi-fi so just started again and now it's been working wonderfully for a couple of days :-)

Hubby thinks it's the best thing since sliced bread!

    interesting...

keep in mind that DNS's stick until you do a reboot (of any device) so you need to:

    1. change DNS on the router (make sure you are allocating network settings via DHCP)
    2. reboot router
    3. reboot device, and in some cases go to device setting and get it to get a new IP

anyway yours is working so thats all good.

Yeah Im madly in love with mine. I said to the wife yesterday that if she dies its ok because I have netflix.
