Hi there,
The title says it all I guess. I am having a painful time setting up my timecapsule which I bought last weekend. I initially set it up via ether net to my iMac and Macbook Air to do the initial backup of time machine.
First question, how do you change the settings on the timecapsule from ethernet to then joining my exisiting wifi network? The only way I could figure out how to do it was to do either: go through the "choose back up disk" option in TM preferences, and then choose "set up ..." but this did not allow me to go through the initial preferences to join an existing network, only extend a network... So I did a reset with the recessed button at the back of the TC.
Then I chose to reset the default settings so that it joins my network wirelessly, which it did and it worked for a little while. Then this weekend after cleaning up both macs, I went to do a timemachine backup and of course because of all the files I had removed and added, I needed to connect back via ethernet to do another major back up. Since then I've not been able to switch back to joining a wireless network, my time machine restarts but airport utility can't find it.
I have restarted TC at least ten times, there are multiple entries in my key chain. Can anyone help with how I should do this, and perhaps how I can start from scratch and remove all settings from my key chain, my TC, without erasing the back ups?
I will ring apple tomorrow for support but if anyone can help me you will have rescued one of my most frustrating weekends ever, particularly since apple say the set up is so simple!!!!

Just open keychain and delete all entries associated with your wireless network. Then disable your iMac/macbook's airport, connect to your TC via Ethernet and set it up properly (best to use the wizard). DO give the network a name, and DO set a password (WPA2). Then I'd let it do a full backup via TM (it's faster via Ethernet).
Once that is done, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable, re-enable your iMac/macbook airport and join your wireless network. from there on in you can switch between Airport/Ethernet at any time, even mid backup. I do that all the time with mine, so you shouldn't have any trouble.
You don't need any special configuration steps for this. You mac's will figure out how to get to your TC.
Sorry - I'm confused.
This is my setup:
My Time Capsule (TC) is my Time Machine (TM) backup drive for my iMac and MBP.
My Time Capsule (TC) has an ethernet cable running from the LAN port of the TC to my iMac.
iMac TM backups run via ethernet, while MBP TM backups occur over wi-fi.
In addition, my TC's WAN port is connected via an ethernet cable to my network router. My TC runs in bridge mode.
No issues whatsoever.
I'm not sure what you're trying to achieve. If you want backups to occur over wi-fi, then set it up as such. Does it really matter how long it takes?
