Default Video2USB or Video2ExpressCard video encoder. Any recommendations/suggestions?

I have a Feb 2011 17" MBP and all of a sudden I'm doing AV for a Comedy Review night for some NGOs.

I need my single Thunderbolt/MiniPort for HDMI out to go to projector(s) otherwise I would by one of the new BlackMagic Design UltraStudio Mini Recorders for $145 (and a $55 TB cable to use it) to bring video from a PC laptop that will be on stage as a prop.

So I'm looking for an HDMI or VGA to USB converter (and driver if required) or something on a ExpressCard/34 that accepts HDMI/VGA input pref HDMI cause I already have a longish extension cable.

Has anybody seen a TB splitter box yet to get around the single port issue? (And how much is it <eyeroll />)

I also have a FW800 port sitting free ATM although may use to bring in Video no sure (there is a couple of seconds lag over FW)

    Thanks in advance.

So what do you need to do exactly? Plug a VCR or something into your Mac, in order to play it out to a projector, which is also plugged in to your Mac?

Port a Laptop into my Mac as a video source for BonixTV.app to be exact. I have other video sources to play to the projector and don't want to be switching leads, in fact I might be using a WiFi connection.

If I can't find something I'l go manual and copy the moves on stage in BonixTV…

Ahh - I don't know how flush with funds you are - but perhaps grab one of these babies: Blackmagic Design: ATEM Television Studio

You plug all your sources into it, plug your output (i.e: projector) into it, and then hook up a laptop via Ethernet in order to control it all. Just be warned, all the input sources need to be the same resolution & frame rate, so you'll also need converters if they can't be made to match. If you go down this route, you wouldn't use BoinxTV at all, but BlackMagic's ATEM software.

If you're after something a little cheaper and low res, you can get FW800 unit to do that - ADVC-HD50 | Grass Valley (goes for around $750).

You could also go even cheaper and get the other laptop to output a component signal, then buy one of these: Blackmagic Design: Video Recorder Tech Specs - it only supports SD (which may or may not be a problem for ya)
