    Default MBP Battery Health

Hi, a few days ago I brought a new MacBook Pro and I was wondering if it was normal for battery health to go down after only 6 cycles

    Is that normal?

Mmm, usually I find the health of a battery hovers around 95-99% for the first year or so, and then heads down a good 10-20% each year after (depending on use, of course).

I'm onto my second MBP battery (the machine is currently 16 months old), and the newest battery has dropped down to 90% health after only 19 cycles and 3 months. I will be seeking yet another battery as that is what I would call a joke.

I will be making sure it is not the same make as the previous 2 also.

I'm just lucky it is 70% desk-bound, as I doubt I could rely on it on the road like I used to the PBook one apon a time..

Jesus Christ, you must drain you battery and charge it up again every single day. Doing this will kill it fastest in my experience.

Pardon my ignorance, but isn't that the point of a laptop - using it out of the office for those that need mobile computers?

I haven't drained it every day I've had it, but I reckon I'll come close to it. Is this going to prematureliy kill the battery? If so, Will Apple come to the party if I make a warranty claim?

Whats the point of a desk-bound laptop. If it aint going to move, isn't it cheaper to get a new 24" iMac?

    Depends on cycle count

Every single day for only 20 cycles over 3 months? Err, no. That would not mean every single day.

It discharges when it goes for a walkabout, but that hasn't been too often (hence the low cycle count). Hence why this is shitting me to tears for it to be happening again.

Sell a $2.5K laptop, and supply it with crap quality batteries. Jesus Christ alright!

Everyone that I have talked to have had a different experience with their battery. I have had my MBP 17 for three years, heavily used, and my battery is just now going bad. It's total charge time has diminished over time. I use my MBP mostly from home but knowing how a Lithium battery works, I used it unplugged every day untill it discharges. My experience is that the deeper you cycle the battery the longer it holds a charge over time (still diminishes). Also the key is that you never let it completely discharge, this is not good for Lithium batteries as apposed to older technology. I hope this helps.

You need people like me so you can point your fu#in' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." So... what that make you? Good? You're not good.... Scarface

I'm on my 3rd battery in 2 years. My mbp is my main computer and I use it for several hours a day. So I have a high cycle count. My last battery dropped from 86% to 49 at around 280 cycles. My new battery is at 99% after a week. I don't have confidence in these batteries- it is my only gripe with Apple. They clearly have a product that doesn't work well, but continue to sell us the same crappy batteries. At $200 a pop it's not like changing your watch battery. It bugs me that the new models supposedly have better batteries but they haven't applied this technology to replacement batteries for previous models. Surely there must be a way.
