Default TPG ADSL2+ ... getting slow speeds!

So we just got ADSL2+ from TPG as they seem to be the only people that do it up here, and my speed results are:

    Speedtest.net

    Ozbroaband test:

Your line speed is [*1.15 Mbps*] (1148 kbps).
    Your download speed is [*143 KB/s*] (0.14 MB/s).

Should I be expecting faster? We only just changed over today, do I need to wait for a while or something for it to go to its potential ?

    Thanks

Default Yes, you should definately get faster speeds

Yes, depending on how far from your telephone exchange you are, you should get at least 4000kb/s down. I would ring up TPG tech support and talk to them, and find out how far you are from your exchange, and how old your house and phone line is. Also, what Modem/Router are you using? Are you accessing over wireless? If so, is it wireless a,b,g or draft n?

...that looks normal for TPG (well, for my ADSL2+ connection here).

Can't wait for Internode and naked DSL at my exchange...

It probably will make no difference, but do another test over a wired (ethernet) connection

I get a slightly better result, about 312KB/s.
I'm with TPG ADSL2+ as well - it's not 24Mbps but it's better than old ADSL...

Distance from the exchange would be a factor, but this is where TPG and other broadband co.s can get us - it's not a promised 24Mbps, it's "up to 24mbps***"

So this is normal? How can I find out the address of where my exchange would be?

    It's not that bad.

I live in an old area, in an old house and apparently I'm a long way from the exchange.... I went on to ADSL2 for a few months and decided it was a waste of money, speed did not increase much.

I did see some guys working on a whole bunch of cables on my corner the other day, can only cross my fingers and hope it's a good sign.

Thats a great site, thanks. I know exactly where my exchange is..

Here is the stats from the exchange to my house:

    Line of Sight: 1741 m
    Estimated Cable: 2524 m
    Estimated Attenuation: 35
    Estimated Maximum Speed: 10666

Interesting... I should be getting faster according to the speed map also.

TPG is f#@$ed. Try doing a speed test at 5am - you may notice that you are getting the bandwidth you paid for. At 5pm to 10pm, forget it. They have over-allocated their bandwidth. Bastards.

BTW I am synced at 19MBps, and happily got those speeds for about a year. Now we get only a fraction of that at "peak times".
