Tuesday Morning News

While you were sleeping (or if you happen to stay up very late…while you were drinking your third Red Bull) Apple discontinued the 40GB Apple TV and brought the price of the $160GB Apple TV down to $329. So if you’ve been holding out buying an Apple TV now is your chance. The Unofficial Apple Weblog has some ideas of what’s in store for the Apple TV

Speaking of the Apple TV turns out that the new iTunes LPs could be designed for the Apple TV based various strings of code found within them. Exciting stuff!

How do you know that you’ve arrive as one of the major players in the world’s tech industry? I’m gonna guess because you’ve created a worldwide NAND flash memory shortage. The hilarious thing is that because of this flash shortage Microsoft could not increase the size of the Zune to 64gb because all of it has been reserved for Apple. Cue collective Nelson laugh and….*Haw Haw*

One of the cool new features of iTunes 9 was the iTunes LPs and all the extras. As Benny posted one account of the LPs yesterday I was  debating about whether or not to post this. Then I realised…what if people want to read more? So here we are…the MacBlog’s run-down of the iTunes LPs. If you don’t like it then blame Benny for posting my news yesterday!!!

Concierge, Mac Specialist, Genius are all honourable positions at any Apple store. Well Apple is adding another role to their employee list ‘iPhone Genius‘. This is an indication of how serious Apple takes their iPhone sales. Though I only have one question: What colour t-shirt are they going to be wearing?

Do you think iTunes needs to have a subscription service? TUAW does. Here is a pretty compelling blog post on why.

Did anyone ever watch that crappy MTV show ‘Cribs”. Basically a douche-bag celebrity would take you around his/her mansion and show off how cool they are. Daily Show did a hilarious take on it. Well this is the Apple Tech’s version of Cribs. It’s called iPhone Home Screen. Tech aficionados will show you their iPhone Home Screen and tell you why they bought what they did. Then we get angry because they’re better than us…*sigh* :-(

Like the new Snow Leopard UI? Did you realise that Snow Leopard has a new UI? Well here is a deconstruction of all the major changes made in the upgrade to 10.6

Optus. The name sends a shiver down any iPhone users spine (including mine). However in making up for their poor website, crappy service and the fact that they won’t pay for beautiful naked women to come to my house and massage me with various scented oils (when I sent the bill to them they just returned it…bastards). They are trying to make up for it by releasing a free iPhone app that will determine your monthly usage. I’ve been using it for a few hours and it’s surprisingly simple and easy. Kudos Optus for embracing the tech industry. Now stop sucking in all the other areas (like Visual Voicemail) and I may think about renewing my contract next year.

We end on a positive note this morning. Apple’s profits are expected to exceed Wall Street’s expectations and grow 7% in September. So a hearty congratulations to the boys and girls in Cupertino.
