You think your 3G is pretty swank, huh? It looks the same, it feels the same… sure it’s not as fast as that new svelte number, but it still pulls its own, right? Sure it does… but can your old 3G do this?
With these first two vids, I’d like to bring your attention to the augmented reality potential inherent with the compass functionality. That’s right, the compass is actually useful for other activities beside hunting sunken Spanish treasure. With these new capabilities information can be overlaid upon the world around you, enhancing sensory perception on a level humanity has never experienced before. First app I’d like to demonstrate is TwittARound. This AR Twitter viewer will help you stalk like never before connect with new and interesting people in a visual sense never previously conceived. Forget the boring linear internet as you know it and imagine social media in real time, displayed all around you. Why chain the thirst for knowledge to a box in your room, when you can soak in just as much data outside, in the real world*.
Potentially more interesting and practical than stalking your neighbours on Twitter is “New York Nearest Subway”. The title pretty much sums it up, hold up the phone like a set of shiny cyclops goggles and learn where the nearest New York subway is. Brilliant and fantastic, all at the same time. There’s also a London Tube app available, so stop by the Acrossair website and have a look at their sterling work.
And now, on a lighter note. A music video shot entirely with the 3GS, and It doesn’t suck. This leisurely song is called Play by BJSR.
*This place still exists, although the graphics aren’t that great I recommend you try it again sometime.
