I have made both iPhone and Aperture books. Since Aperture was updated to 2.1.2 I have heard that the quality is through the roof. iPhoto on the other hand is still the crappy quality it always was.
I say make your books in Aperture (version 2.1.2) to get the best results.

If you want the the books for Christmas you need to get them off ASAP. I have found that the books take at least 3 weeks to be delivered as they come from the U.S.A. Your books might get caught up in the Christmas holidays and not be delivered on time.

iPhoto book quality was 5/10
Aperture book quality was 5/10 (same as iPhoto)

I haven't tried a new Aperture book yet, but I've heard they are very good. The books I printed last year are O.K, but I wouldn't call them very good. They are alright for mum and grandma to pass around, but they are not what you would call professional quality. Since 2.1.2 though this issue should be sorted out.

I have just ordered my second book from iPhoto printing. The quality is great! Printing is sharp and vivid and the paper is nice.

If you are looking to get print products done before Christmas, December 4th is the last day to order to ensure you get them before the 25th.

I've done iPhoto and Aperture books.

I like Aperture better because you have full layout control but other than that they are mostly the same. Haven't printed one for a while though so don't know how the 2.1.2 books look....if they are better then they would look pretty awesome.

We've just done some calendars for Christmas of the two little girls. They can't be done in Aperture - so had to be done in iPhoto (why the heck is Aperture crippled like this anyway?).
But there wasn't an issue at all and they look great.
We do the occasional book from Aperture - it's great.
You're far better using Aperture as it gives you greater control.
I use Asukabook's for my client stuff. They're the best. But you pay through the nose - and generally just use Photoshop for the layout.

I am very happy with iPhoto printing service, I ordered a 58 page hardcover book on Sunday. On Tuesday morning I got and e-mail saying it had shipping at 2:02AM. Quick service!

Although it takes a while for it to arrive, it's very good value. Was happy with it when I ordered last year when it became available for Australia.

BTW, I ordered 2 books at the end of last month, but they both got shipped on Monday so hopefully sometime next week I'll see them delivered at work.

digoxin, You can export iPhoto books to PDF. Do Aperture books cost more than iPhoto books?
