Default Adobe Starts Ad Campaign Against Apple

    Quote:
The co-founders of Adobe have published an open letter in which they say that Apple threatens to "undermine the next chapter of the web".

The software firm has also started an adverting blitz in newspapers and on popular technology news sites.

From BBC News - Adobe's row with Apple over Flash technology escalates

Looks pretty interesting, this is really starting up. I think the advertising campaign is pretty interesting.
I think its gone a little too far now though. Adobe should realise Apple hate Flash and don't want it on their products, and perhaps Apple should attempt to give Adobe a go (though I know it will never actually happen)

    Thoughts?

    They're scared.

    They're very scared.

That's what happens when you sit on your laurels on the Internet.

It’s sad when a company (Adobe) stoops to misinformation about the web.

I wonder if those are Flash adverts or if they're animated GIFs.

I can't believe how many friends of mine aren't getting ipads MOSTLY because they don't have flash. even with All the apps supported by the ipad that I think compensates for this they won't budge. I've tried bring up the flash means crash point but still nothing.

It's so lame. They're highlighting the fact that they're in a weak position. The general public doesn't care. Jobsy's missives have been very clearly stated and show Apple's strong position. Adobe should have said nothing.

Escalation like this is a huge mistake.

How do they know this won't piss Jobs off so much he produces an easy-enough-for-restaurant-owners-to-use WYSIWYG html5 editor and open sources it?
I am surprised it hasn't happened already.

YES!! Adobe should continue to taunt Apple... to the point where Apple create their own pro image editor.

The article shows Adobe as being a child who hasn't got what he wanted and is now throwing his toys out the cot. Adobe is royally burning their bridges. They need to grow up.

this would be it if it were true... at least for html5 - Pixelmator makes a fairly decent GPU driven image editor (although it's still in its infancy)

And as a user I want choice - choice to be able to use the internet without having to encounter any Flash.

All Adobe have to do is change the "convert to iPhone" button to a "convert to HTML5" button and continue to own the market. They have the IDE, they have the army of flash developers already...but nooooo....

Funny thing is...before all this, everyone would bitch and moan about flash. Now the iPad (and iPhone before it) doesn't have flash every man and his dog is backing it as if it's the second coming. It's flash...it sucks...it's stuck in the past in a world where web browsers couldn't draw tables consistently. There's no more need for it.

    I'll take 5 please!
As long as their is Indesign, Illustrator & Photoshop equivalents.
No, I won't use Quark. I hate it more than I hate Flash crashing my Mac…

And I reckon I'd still have change left over if I were to compare to buying CS5.

And what a joke that "We support HTML5"
Their brand new HTML editor Dreamweaver CS5 has zero support for ANY of the new HTML5 tags.
In fact the product looks as though its on life-support, undoubtedly to push you into using Flash.

Oh how the mighty have fallen, once the best software company in the world, now they make me sick.

"undermine the next chapter of the web" - I'm sorry, but wouldn't Flash, considering the rise of HTML5, be considered the previous chapter of the web?

Any sympathy I had for Adobe died when they continued ripping off the Aus consumers by charging them nearly twice the price. They make the Apple tax look like candy.

Yeah, it's not bad, but they copied a lot of Photoshop's bad points, IMO. Palettes for every single feature? No thanks! I want to spend my time creating, not shuffling windows and palettes around.

Acorn is my favourite non-Photoshop editor. It's lacking quite a few features for it to be considered for any heavy duty web or UI design work, but it's getting there and it's a fresh approach.
