Default Does Applecare from ebay USA work on Australian Macbook pros?

    Hello guys,

My Macbook pro 13" warranty is about to expire at the end of the month. Its $299 to
get the extended coverage if I buy it through apple Australia but its almost 100 dlls
cheaper if I get it from some sellers from the USA on ebay.

My question is, will it work?

Any input will be appreciated, thank you guys.

Applecare is purchased with your computer, is priced on its value, and the mismatch between the Australian model and USA AppleCare of dubious origin, will be readily apparent.

It is different if you bought the Mac in the states with AppleCare that is recognised around the world.

You can buy 3rd party support for up to 5 years. I have that with my last iMac, it even includes phone support.

    Short answer is no.
AppleCare is regional. If you have an Aussie MacBook you need to buy Aussie AppleCare.
You also need to purchase it from an authorized apple reseller.

I went through this process in 2010 and enquired up through Apple support until I reached an executive level. When the gentleman phoned me back I was informed that apple would reject any warranty claims on USA AppleCare applied to Aussie computers.
If you read their terms and conditions it now states that AppleCare is regional.

    Hi Leon,
I just read Apple Doc.081811 APP Mac APAC English v5.4, which I think is the Applecare terms and conditions for this region, and I cannot see it spelt out. (does talk of different consumer laws in different countries)
Sorry if I misread it, but could you point me in the correct direction where this is in print from Apple.
    Appreciate your help.

I've purchased US AppleCare for several Macs off eBay in the past and have never had any trouble registering it or having it honoured at the genius bar. It's just a code, once you register it online for your device there is no distinction anymore where it came from. It will just show that your device is now covered for 3 years.

    Cheers

Refer to my post #21 in this thread.
    AppleCare from overseas

When you read the terms and conditions of USA sourced Applecare it states clearly that the plan is only valid in the USA and Canada.

Here is a direct cut and past from the USA AppleCare T&C

    7. General Terms
    a. Apple may subcontract or assign performance of its obligations to third parties but shall not be
relieved of its obligations to you in doing so.
    b. Apple is not responsible for any failures or delays in performing under the Plan that are due to events outside Appleʼs reasonable control.
    c. You are not required to perform preventative maintenance on the Covered Equipment to receive service under the Plan.
    d. This Plan is offered and valid only in the fifty states of the United States of America, the District of Columbia and Canada. This Plan is not offered to persons who have not reached the age of majority. This Plan is not available where prohibited by law.

It's up to you what you want to do. I decided that it was not worth the risk for me as I was buying AppleCare for a number of very expensive machines. After being told by Apple Australia that applying USA Applecare to AUS machines was a breach of the T&Cs and therefore invalid, I decided that it wasn't worth potentially throwing my money away.

You need to read the T&C of the USA Applecare protection plan. Spells it out in Section 7d, that it is only valid in the USA.

It seems Steffen (dotnet) is correct. I just had a read of the T&C's from AppleCare US that has the same title as yours and found some different wording. http://images.apple.com/legal/applec...sh_NA_v5.4.pdf

    Point 11, section iv states:

"This Plan is offered and valid only if you are a resident of the fifty states of the
United States of America, the District of Columbia, Canada and other countries in which
Apple or its affiliated companies offers the Plan that are set forth
Apple - Legal - Country List. This Plan is not offered to
persons who have not reached the age of majority. This Plan is not available where
    prohibited by law."

I went to the country list page and Australia is there. I think it's fair to assume that all should be ok, and that Leon is going from his previous post (which are the 2010 terms and conditions).

I recently bought a Macbook Pro a few months ago and am looking to buy US AppleCare myself. I'm glad I found a 2012 post for my concerns.

    Hope this helps

Be a little cautious on buying AppleCare through eBay as there have been quite a few scams. Read what eBay itself advises:-

New terms seem to indicate that it's valid overseas. Hopefully you won't have a problem.

Applecare has really disappointed me. Bought it with my macbook pro from Chaddy and is valid till 2013. Travelling for business and my magsafe adapter went bust (not charging and leaking oil).

Called apple Australia and was told after verification that I should get to the apple authorised reseller and they will replace my magsafe charger - just quote the case number (which the apple service rep had given me along with the address to the apple reseller in the city I am in -Asia region).

Apple reseller after questioning me for 1 hour told me its gonna take 7-10 business days for them to get me a magsafe charger!!! This even when they had the chargers in stock and on display and could clearly see my charger was not working and leaking that funny oil. They told me they could not give me the chargers they had in stock as my request had to go to singapore and then singapore would have to send me one!!!!!! What a disappointment extended warranty/applecare and their Authorised resellers are! My Macbook has no battery left and they would not even let me charge my mac for my presentation at the shop!!!! Very very disappointed with them! Applecare is valid in this country but if this is the process, and they are the Authorised resellers, there is no point of getting applecare. I wish i was back home! Will be calling applecare Aus at 3am local time tonight~

    Escalate your complaint.

Ask to be put back to a Singapore manager, they seem to be senior to the Australian AppleCare specialists.

My last case I made it clear I was not going to take no for an answer, and they eventually decided they'd better just get on with it. It would be cheaper for them in the long run. At that point they became extremely co-operative and helpful.

Did you take it to a reseller or an Apple Store? Apple Stores are more likely to replace the charger immediately. Resellers will want to send it to Apple to be repaired or assessed.

hi guys thanks for the replies. am using my phone so there might be some typos. macbook has no battery left.

I am currently travelling and in Pakistan in a city called Lahore. There are no apple stores here just their authorized reseller. An update. talked to apple care in Australia and was put tbrough to the supervisor. I told him I was really concerned about the response I had gotten from the apple reseller here in Lahore. JACK the supervisor from apple Aus promised to give me a call back once he had gotten in touch with the resellers. he seemed quite surprised as well about the response I got. will let you know what happens and if i make the presentation! cheers for the replies
