    Default Wednesday Morning News

Ars Technica review Parallels 6, and they find that it's pretty damn good, bringing a 64-bit host and a bucketload of other features. It's a very stable .0 release from Parallels, and if you're looking to run intensive 3D games or do any sort of intensive graphics work, its a must-upgrade (or buy, if you haven't already owned a copy of it).

TextEdit is a very capable, if very basic, text editor that's included on every Mac sold. It comes as part of the operating system (which is a a huge plus), but lacks some important features. Fraise fills that gap, and it's kinda similar to the excellent Notepad++ app on Windows.

Barefeats stick a USB 3.0 card in a Mac Pro, and see it perform faster than it's FireWire 800 competitor. FireWire purists still won't like the fact that USB still uses CPU resources to a greater extent than FireWire does, but those speed results speak for themselves.

The brilliant instant-messaging application BeeJiveIM got released for Android overnight, and presuming you can buy it in your country, it'll set you back US $9.99.

Designers of iOS icons may have noticed the dreaded black pixel issue that's been plaguing some App Store apps of late. Apparently it's to do with some sort of masking issue that iOS does, and Nick Farina has the fix.

Simplenote is one of the better web based tools I've used for synching notes, and iPhone App Storm have a good review of it if you haven't already jumped ship.

Because we all need a bit of a laugh — Microsoft released two new Windows Phone 7*commercials.

A lot of people don't know you can customise the toolbar, and those that do probably found it by right clicking on something by accident some day. Tell a fellow Mac user that their toolbars can be customised, and you'll probably make their day!

Unity brought out version 3 of it's excellent games development engine/software, which brought many many*improvements*including high-end*light-map*tools. Best of all? It runs on Mac, just like it has always done.

It has potential presuming it has a decent app store and ease of access for developers.

The interface looks like they are trying to be too different from the "page of app icons" model everyone else is taking. Kudos to them for wanting to be different but I'm, not sure it hits the mark.

I'm pretty sure I just witnessed the first decent Microsoft ad! I liked the first one. The second one was just dodgily made (maybe it was a proof).

Agreed. As someone mentioned in the comments on the story, at least it’s not a straight ripoff of iOS like most seem to be doing…

That first Microsoft ad is brilliant! Completely misleading ultimately of course, but as an ad that's pretty damn good.

Those ads aren't too bad after all. Anyway, the link to Fraise needs to be this instead I believe. The other will not work and the site is in private beta. Looking into the program though, so thanks especially when you mentioned it was similar to Notepad++

    Huh?

Mac App Storm (the website who reviewed Friase who I've linked) definitely isn't in beta...

That's really weird. When I tried to go to the site before it timed out so I went to the root directory and something came up about a beta
