Ok, I watched the video and i can help you.
does the computer freeze and have to be restarted?
This has only started happening today, I want to watch a DVD on my iMac, and DVD Player wont play it. I've tried different DVDs and I've also tried playing the movies from Video_TS folders on my HDD, still, it wont play. DVD Player will play a few seconds, then the video and audio will stop and freeze. If I try to click stop, or anything else i get a "Not Permitted" bubble appear, and if I click Pause I get a message "DVD Player has encountered a system error. Error -69889"
I've tried totally removing DVD Player, its plist's, and folders and restoring a old versions from Time Machine. Still, nothing works. This also happens in Front Row. UPDATE: VLC does not play the DVDs either.
Please help. Heres the link to a short video screencast that shows exactly what happens: http://j0wkcw.blu.livefilestore.com/...1.mov?download

no, everything else functions fine afterwards, except for the playing of DVD's![]()

umm.....
Is DVD Player is up to date (the latest version)
yes, there are no updates for my system and DVD Player says it is App Version 5.0.3 and its FrameWork Version is 5.0.6.
ok,
something similar happened to me when i upgraded to leopard...
so you may have to do a massive backup and just re-install (and erase) your osx and start again.
ya, its annoying but sometimes it has to be done.
is the mac your on now the one having the trouble?

sorry if i didn't give you the help that you needed, but thats what worked for me, and i've never had a problem since.

i might restore now actually, now VLC wont even play the DVD.
Alright then, i'll let you get the restore going (it takes about 2 hours)

You never mentioned whether it was the one specific DVD that it wouldn't play, or if it refused all DVDs... ?
