Default Would you pay slightly more to get 27" iMac as external display?

I realised that it is possible to use the 27" iMac as external display, just want to see if other people would pay more to get 27" iMac over the 27" display?

Why not? Best damn computer I've ever had, once I got over the bad hard drive Apple supplied with it.

At the end of its life, if it can still be used as a monitor, all to the good.

I also have a 24" white iMac where the CPU overheats but the screen is brilliant, but it can't be used as a monitor. That is a waste!

I know the refurb iMacs sell not much more If you want dual screens they sit better.
Personally I think the 27" Cinema display is overpriced.

I wouldn't as the computer needs to be running in order to use it as a monitor. Waste of electricity to have a whole computer sitting idle just acting as a screen.
    Something about Jimby.

Unless you've already got it running as a media server Also, it's just passthrough from the display port so I would've expected the iMac to follow whatever it's sleep settings were.

I wouldn't pay extra for it, but it'd be nice to see it come back as a feature. Although I'm far more inclined to wait for the Belkin Thunderbolt dock and use it with my two existing 21" displays than buy an iMac just for that feature...

True a normal monitor doesn't have to be on when you are viewing it.

I got all excited there for a minute. I keep thinking about a 27" display to complement my MBA and would seriously consider a full blown machine instead if the price difference wasn't huge.

That said, if there was some way to enable all the features of the thunderbolt display, i.e. pass through to the ethernet, usb, firewire, camera, speakers and even better the optical drive it would be an absolutely AWESOME concept. Consider using a desktop for one person or the kids only to hook up your work laptop to use otherwise all in one neat little package!

Oh well. I suppose I too will sit quietly and wait for the Belkin thunderbolt Dock and just be happy with my 24" screen
