Default 1st Gen iPod Nano Replacement Program

Apple - Support - iPod nano Replacement Program

Anyone still got one of these to replace? 6 Weeks seems like a long time to get a replacement. It doesn't really mention if you will get a new iPod nano (6 Gen) or just a refurbed older one.

    Any thoughts?

I'll see what they give me, i've had a 1st gen nano sitting in a drawer for a couple of years, pulled it out, entered the serial and bingo, i'm eligible.

Hmm, the website says 'Apple will send you a box with shipping instructions to mail your iPod nano to us.'. Then, received an email saying 'Please take the shipping label and your IPOD NANO to Australia Post. Do not include any other items, such as the power cord, as they will not be returned to you. The Australia Post agent will provide the appropriate packaging and send the product to Apple'.

    Anyone know what's the deal?

They'll send you a box, you print out the label they give you and send yours off. Once you send yours they will send a replacement.

So, don't go to Australia Post and try and send it but wait for a box to come from Apple?

I think it's just like the returning the iPhone, take the label to Aussie Post and they will provide the packaging and post for you.

Their website contradicts their email, i'll trust the email.

Please take the shipping label and your IPOD NANO to Australia Post, Do not include any other items, such as the power cord, as they will not be returned to you. The Australia Post agent will provide the appropriate packaging and send the product to Apple. The ship time to Apple may be as many as five business days, depending on your region. Apple will send you an email when your product reaches the repair center.

So are we getting the latest model or just a repair of our current model?

    Cheers

most likely a refurb... i doubt they would give the latest model.

ive got a nano that is used as my sleep ipod (use it to play songs so that i can sleep easier), and viola, its going to be replaced under the above mentioned program.

Not sure about that, would we get a refurb 1st gen? I can't see Apple having anywhere near enough 1st gen units to go round.

having a refurb 6th gen ipod nano would be wickedly cool!! because i was toying with the idea of buying a nano for my morning cycling runs...

the fact that i bought my ipod nano from a colleague for $30 makes it a bargain of the century

I have one of these in absolutely pristine condition as it's been in an agent 18 shell since day 1. It's eligible for replacement - I hope I don't get some shitty scratched refurb back. A pristine refurb OK. New gen nano would be real nice - could they?. I reckon the 1st gen nano was a beautiful design except it got scratched too easily.

in all honesty, i preferred the first gen nano because of the clickwheel. the interface was nice. the new nano's seem like a try hard version of the ipod touch/iphone.

but my favorite ipod of all is the 3rd gen ipod classic, where the 4 buttons were at the top and the clickwheel under it, with the very cool orange backlight.

Well, according to Apple, "All refurbished iPod models also include a brand new battery and outer shell."

I doubt they'd be giving away 6th gen Nanos, but I also find it hard to believe they still have the tooling and facilities to manufacture components for a device that's been obsolete and unsupported for about four years.

i dont think foxxconn would be too impressed at having to make such a small run of ipods just to fulfil replacement, logistically, it will be easier to just ship out the 6th gen nano's.

I hope everyone sends their original iPod nano back to Apple. Means that original ones that weren't returned get rarer in time to come and thus more collectable.

Why would something that poses a safety risk be collectable?

I had a very ratty 1st gen nano that I gave away, wonder if it's eligible?

I know it's a tad sleazy, but do you think it's worth swiping one up for 10-15 bucks on ebay and seeing if I can get myself a new nano??? (hasn't had a mp3 player for...god i'm sad..phone is also broken..which was 3.5 years old..im poor damnit!)
