Does anyone think that there will be anyway to hack mountain lion onto integrated graphics such as my early 2008 Macbook?
I mean come on, its only 3.5 years old, surely it can run mountain lion. It just looks like lion with new features as programs rather than a completely new os.

Been using it since sorting out that my apple ID used for store purchases and which is defunct in terms of mail... will not work. It just refused to send. Also, I was unable to delete that once it was in, and so had to uninstall then reinstall (what a pain in the derriere that was, with all the rebooting) and use my me.com address and its all good now. Been using it to msg a friend on his phone and then he downloaded it too, and is using it at his end.
I quite like it, overall, but you are stuck with a sidebar and your message partners' names, it takes up a lot of screen on a 13" MBP. Still, its a beta, no doubt these things will all get sorted.

Where does it say that hardware won't be compatible? I couldnt find a requirements section.
OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion System Requirements
Basically just about anything that can't boot into EFI64 is out. Either way, I suspect that that the Hackintosh community or someone else will probably come up with a solution. However that doesn't change the fact that it seems ML is going to want a machine with better graphics than what the unsupported machines have, and as such even if you do get it going, performance might suffer.
Good. Fast. Cheap. Pick two...
I'm becoming quite frustrated by an inability to see where the system requirements are listed. Can you (or someone) please point me at them?

Oh crap. Posted the previous before I saw this. Thank you so much! Looks like I'll be getting a thundrebolt to go with the macbook instead of hanging onto the imac. (though that might end up doing doubletime as a TV, with the eyetv.) Mine is a mid 2007 but its going to be stretching the friendship a bit I guess.
I don't really care if it runs slow up until mid last year I was using an emac 2004 with leopard! I think i read somewhere that they had been able to get mountain lion running on intel integrated graphics.

i found it on mac rumours:OS X Mountain Lion Drops Support for Many 2006-2008 Macs with Integrated Graphics

Cult of Mac points to a report from French site MacGeneration highlighting the system requirements for OS X Mountain Lion. Among those Macs currently compatible with OS X Lion, those with lower-end Intel GMA X3100 or GMA 950 integrated graphics will not be able to upgrade to Mountain Lion:
- Any Intel Core 2 Duo MacBook from late 2007 – late 2008 (Model Numbers: MB061*/B, MB062*/B, MB063*/B, MB402*/A MB403*/A MB404*/A, MB402*/B)
- The Mid-2007 Mac mini (Model Numbers: MB138*/A, MB139*/A)
- Late 2006 polycarbonate iMac (Model Number: MA710xx/A)
- The original early 2008 MacBook Air (Model Number: MB003LL/A)
Users of those older systems may still receive a few of Mountain Lion's enhancements such as with Apple's Safari 5.2 for Lion, but the vast majority of improvements will require a new machine with higher specs.
Update: At least one developer tells us he has been able to install Mountain Lion on a Late 2006 iMac and MacBook Pro without problems. So, the developer builds do not seem to enforce these restrictions.
Update 2: Systems using ATI's Radeon X1600 graphics will also be incompatible with OS X Mountain Lion.

I would suspect apple is using a limited set of hardware for earlier developer releases. It is likely to work on a wider range closer to full release. At least it's a theory.

It's great to be able to watch the OS develop and play with the new features but it just gets far too unresponsive and buggy for the first few developer previews. Think I'll stick with Lion for now.
:P
US summer, meaning June/July usually. Going by the Lion release I'm thinking mid July.
As for waiting, 10.6 is perfectly fine and not broken. I was going to upgrade the Mrs computer from 10.6 (I bought the family upgrade when Lion came out and have yet to do it) but I might just wait until ML now.
With yearly releases I suspect we'll see a lot more people skipping every other release, even if it is $30 a year to keep up to date.
…amongst the major new, 21st Century look technological innovations will be the scrolling parchment and brass cornered look of TextEdit and Pages.
Geez, just when I was beginning to really loath Lion, now there comes a new OS with more features to slow my work to a crawl.
Just a heads up for people, Parallels 7 and VMWare Fusion 4 don't currently run on Mountain Lion.

Unless you are on a 3GS. That is not happening for me. Post in messages are just that, and posts in imessage. All separate
[edit] Troubleshooting Messages Beta tells me that my apple ID has to be the same on all devices. I had not actually "signed in" with my appleID in iMessage, didnt even realise I had to, because my phone was sending messages just fine. I wonder how setting the email as the "CallerID" affects conversations with people who do not have a mac desktop, and so will never have messages.
[edit #2] and to add insult to injury, I have discovered that using imessage and messages means that, like it or not, my itunes login must also be the same. The me.com account has never been used to log in to itunes. Ive been using that old mac.com address since 2005. Now, Apple says if I want to use messages (and I do want to) I must use me.com as my AppleID...EVERYWHERE. Seriously pissed off about a) not being able to resurrect that old ID to use as a complete appleID, b) not being able to transfer purchases made on the old ID to the new one, and c) now finding that the credit I have left in the old ID itunes account CAN NOT be moved to the new ID. Way to go, Apple
[edit #4] The knowledgebase article was wrong in one respect. I did not have to set the iMessage "callerID" to my AppleID at all. Just the phone number. I've reset it and now have synchronicity.*
I do hope all my rambling today will be of assistance to anyone else who may have struggled with that.
