Hello All,
I have a NAS running linux and have setup some Samba shares that are accessible to my Macbook. All is well with the share - as in - I can browser through the folders and read and write etc. However, if I try to use the search field in the top right corner of the finder window and try to search for something in the share, I get zero results. Even though I know what i am looking for is there.
I am running Lion and ArchLinux on the NAS.
Any help would be appreciated.
Cheers
John

Hmm... I guess I am on my own.![]()
Because Apple decided that instead of actually searching on drives for what is really there, Spotlight will create an index and search the index.
Your samba shares aren't indexed so use something like EasyFind instead
mab: would that kinda explain why Spotlight is damn fast at finding things?
Wouldn't that also mean you could simply force Spotlight to index an external drive as per: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1573997 ?

Yes, that's exactly why it's so fast.
And it's exactly why "Apple decided that instead of actually searching on drives for what is really there, Spotlight will create an index and search the index"
Ahh. Thanks guys. Great info.
I haven't used EasyFind before but FindAnyFile is probably better :P
