Exclamation OS X Lion Screen Sharing

Has anyone had problems trying to get Screen Sharing (Virtual Display) to work? After initially installing Lion on both Mac Mini and MacBook Air, Screen Sharing worked like it did in Snow Leopard.

After doing a Software Update and updating iTunes 10.4 and another "Secure Sharing" patch (trying to remember the name of the patch and Apple hasn't listed it in their Support > Downloads section), Screen Sharing refuses to work.

Tried de-nabling and re-nabling Screen Sharing option on the Mac Mini to no avail. I can access the Mac Mini's folders easily through Finder after connecting, but selecting the "Screen Sharing" button shows a very delayed "Connection" progress bar. This disappears, only to have another progress bar connecting before also disappearing with no error message, and no virtual display window.

Screen Sharing continues to run, but no window is displayed. Have anyone had connectivity issues? Are there any work around solutions?

EDIT: I'm CERTAIN it was this Remote Desktop Client Update (v3.5) that broke Screen Sharing on Lion

    About Apple Remote Desktop v3.5

I don't have this app, but this update includes more "compatibility" with OS X Lion. Is it logical to download version 3.4 that was released in January 2011 (prior to Lion's release) and see if it work with Screen Sharing? I am adamant that Screen Sharing was working on both Lion machines PRIOR to this update with iTunes 10.4 that were released after Lion was available in the app store

I'm going to jump on this band wagon as well, but with a slightly different complaint.

I used to screen share to a PPC Mac Mini running Snow Leopard. Prior to updating to Lion on my MBP screen sharing was pretty good. Lag was barely noticeable.

Now ever since using screen sharing from Lion to Snow Leopard, it is barely useable.

I'm at the point of considering other options such as VNC. Not good

OK. Following advice from Apple Support Community, here is the fix. DO NOT INSTALL "Remote Desktop Client Update" (v3.5.1) to OS X Lion if you value Screen Sharing or VNC. A simple fix involves unchecking and rechecking Remote Login and Remote Management in your "Sharing" settings in System Preferences.

The LONG about fix (which I discovered worked for me) after applying this update was:

    Instructions by tchaga:

    1. Download ARD 3.4 (http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1350)(RemoteDesktopClient.dmg), mount it, look inside the package/Contents, copy the Archive.pax.gz to the desktop.

    2. Expand the Archive.pax.gz and navigate inside the resulting folder Archive to /System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement

    3. Navigate to the same folder at the root of your HD (i.e. HD/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement)

    4. Copy ARDAgent from your HD/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement to the Desktop and then delete it from the HD/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement folder (you need admin password).

    5. Copy ARDAgent from Archive/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement to HD/System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement (you need admin password again).

    6. Restart
Voila! Screen Sharing now works as it should!

Thanks for this, I've been having frequent freezes of my screen sharing (using Snow Leopard still), and the 'long' fix seems to have repaired the issue

they really messed up screen sharing in Lion.
    It was terrific in SL,
In Lion it's slow to connect, laggy, painful.
Airdrop doesn't work either, allround poor user experience.

Anyone been game to apply the new ARD 3.5.2 Client update? It is purported to fix Screen Sharing issues.

Hehe. You still running SL? I have actually held off on updating to 10.6.8 because I originally heard here - in another thread - that the screen sharing issue was to do with it. I rely on screen sharing to control my server, so I can't afford to have it break. Funnily enough, I'm running ARD 3.5.1 under 10.6.6 and it works fine.

I might try going to 10.6.8 and see if that breaks it.

I've got one iMac running snow SL and another with lion... the screen sharing on lion has been fine, even after accidentally updating to 3.5.1..... I might update both and see what happens - can always go back using that 'long' fix above

Updated client machine (MacPro3,1) to 10.6.8 while still running ARD 3.5.1 and it connected to the server (MacMini3,1) running 10.6.6 & ARD 3.5.1 fine. Updated the Mac Pro completely - including ARD 3.5.2 - and Screen Sharing still works well. Will update the Mini Server at some point & see how that goes.

Finally got around to updating the server to 10.6.8...and...screen sharing actually works much better than before - almost instantaneous now with the Screen Sharing Menulet, which is what I use for the task. It used to take a while to connect before.

I tried to install the patch and it said I had a newer one....my issues with accessing the remote machine only began recently.
Suggestions as to the cause and the fix gratefully received!
