Default Display options for a Mac Pro

Just after some feedback and options.

Looking at getting another monitor but not sure what would be best.
Looking first at the 27' Apple displays. Currently $1199.00.
Two showing on the Apple store. One with Thunderbolt and one without. But both the same price. Why would you go for the one without? Are they a good option?

What are the options/recommendations for other displays? Just not up to date with what's out there and the current trends.
I know people were looking at the Dell displays sometime back.
Somewhere around the Apple display size and pricing would be Ok.

I need the display to be accurate colour wise for photo and graphic work. But not necessarily super accurate.

    Any suggestions most welcome.

Can't plug a thunderbolt screen into Mac Pro as it doesn't have TB ports, therefore have to buy the regular one.

Lots of people use the premium Dell screens, which are OK for photography - very good screens generally, just not quite up to serious photo work IMO - but NEC make some better ones for photographers on a budget from what I'm told. They're still not cheap, but they are supposed to be good. A quick look here shows that there are a few in the same kind of price range as the Apple screens, though for smaller sizes. I use an EIZO ColorEdge, but they're a bit expensive.

You should be able to find good 2nd hand 30" ACDs for $1000 or less.

    Cheers

It's Unix, Jim, but not as we know it...
