Default Anyone in Canberra with a working Powermac G4 I can lend to install 10.5.8 on my HD?

Now that I have an original Leopard installer disc I now need a lend of a 'working' Powermac G4 (obviously within Leopard spec ie greater than 867 MHZ) so that I can install my HD in the Powermac, perform the Leopard install then run the 10.5.8 combo update. I can then remove my HD and install it back in my Quicksilver. This is the ONLY way I can install 10.5.8 on my HD since my Quicksilver Dual 1 GHz is simply to unstable to take any OS install other than Panther 10.1.0

Put your HD into an external case and then use any PPC G4 (>867MHz) or G5 mac to install Leopard onto the disk.
The HD needs an APM format Partition Map too. (check in disk utilities - but it should be APM already if it was in the G4 previously)
The OSX Leopard retail system disc is not dependent on a matching machine type to yours for the fresh install to boot your Quicksilver.

well the problem with this is I don't have an external case so someone would need to lend me one plus wouldn't I still need a working Powermac/Mac Pro to hook up my HD in the external case to?

The reason I need 10.5.8 (or even just 10.5.0) on my HD is that many of my user installed applications/utilities were installed under 10.5.8 and once I was forced (due to a catastrophic system crash) to reinstall Panther (I only have install discs for Puma & Panther) I found that most of my added applications/utilities would no longer launch under Panther plus a few actually require 10.4 or 10.5 to run and of course I can't upgrade the OS due to my Quicksilver being too unstable to take any OS upgrades by any means (its strongly suspected of having a faulty memory controller, faulty logic board, possible faulty processor board, plus possible faulty firewire ports, plus who knows what else)

All you need is a Power PC Mac capable of running 10.5.
For example, a G4 iMac >867MHz will install Leopard onto your disk in an external enclosure without complaining.

You need a PPC Mac because Intel models insist a boot drive has a GUID partition map, not an APM, and PPC won't boot from GUID. However, Intel will boot from an APM partition map. This situation is unique to leopard retail disks, they carry a universal system capable of booting both PPC and Intel, provided the partition map is APM. I have an external set up like this as a repair / emergency disk, for a mix of Intel and PPC macs.

The G4 sounds like it might not see next weekend though, ...unless it gets a few donor organs.

So can anyone lend me a PPC Mac capable of running 10.5 and possibly an external hard drive enclosure as well? and yes my Quicksilver will be lucky to make it to the end of the year by which time I'll hopefully have a brand new 21.5" i5 imac. I've already archived my important files to disc and its mainly my user installed applications/utilities left to archive (assuming they work as its possible some of the support files have been corrupted/lost from the crash - I have a DiskWarrior folder named 'Rescued Items' full of files that have lost their associations so there's no way of telling where they came from to put them back in their correct folders - and of course they won't launch under 10.3 anyway so I can't see if they still run. A few of the applications are also a pain to configure if I have to reinstall them from scratch) however I still need to be able to run my applications until I get my new iMac. If anyone can help I'd be grateful.

No need for the grammar corrections chaps - it's fairly clear what this member needs.

DarkAvenger, sounds like you're digging a hole and will continue to lose data based on what you are planning! Any G4 Tower can run Leopard with an Open Firmware hack - I'm betting you can probably pick up a free G4 tower unit on here, with enough RAM to get you buy. Or consider an eMac - they're not worth anything these days. Slow, but no further issues, until you pick up your nice new Mac!
